New Mustang owner and not off to a good start!

Hey everyone,
First, I have been on forums before (mazdaspeedfforums.org) and had to find my way. I hope things are different here. The 2013 Mustang I just picked up is totally new to me as I have only had experience tuning a mazdaspeed 3. I had a great time with my previous car with little to no issues ( big turbo e85 and meth tuned ) My first couple days with my new mustang I threw two codes p2196 and p2198 - car still runs fine, pulls hard but damn, car only has 37 000 km on it. Current mods are in sig. I know I can probably search and find similar issues, but I need to get use to this forum and find my way around. Anyone who can give me some insight would be great. I LOVE the car but I am not off to a good start. Previous owner is tuned on 94 octane and it came with the BAMA tuner. I cleared the codes but would like to know what the future holds for this mustang owner. I want to learn so help me out!!

rukkusstang 05-18-2015 01:02 AM

is this forum active enough, or should I be suggested a more imformative forum? No offence but I know some places are more active then others

Ray Spencer 05-18-2015 01:17 AM

The codes you are getting means the fuel mixture is too lean/rich. Mustangs are meant to run on 87 octane normally. They can run on higher octane but it means playing with a tuner to get the proper adjustment. If you stay with 87 octane you will also save money on fuel cost.

http://www.obd-codes.com/p2198

As for the forum it can be active depending how many people are on it at a given time.

Apocalypse Pony 05-18-2015 06:25 AM

Well, you posted your thread at midnight and then you wonder why you have no responses by 2:00am and ask if the forum is active enough, seriously? There isn't a ton of members here, but it's a good group, if you want answers at 2:00am in the morning, maybe you need the check out some of the US forums, because no way in hell I'm on an internet forum at 2:00am. lol Welcome, and congrats on the new ride, if you don't post pics in the next two hours I'm going someplace else. ha ha ha

Actually Ray Spencer mustangs can be run on any fuel, 87 to 94 and will adjust timing accordingly with the factory tune, however tuners will specifically tune for a certain octane. So what the op needs to do is find out what bama tune he is running and use the proper fuel for that tune or a higher octane. It could be you have a some bad fuel in it as well. Do you still have the tuner?

herbz 05-18-2015 07:17 AM

The OP never stated what fuel he was running just what the car was tuned for. If he's got anything but 94 in there that's probably the codes. If you don't want to run the 94 you need a different tune or to retard the timing.

Yep I am aware of all this. Just trying to tell the Op that all I have ever run was 87 octane and have never had an issue. The information from Ford when I asked them a few years ago was that the Mustangs 4.0 or 4.6L at set to run at 87 Octane from the Flat Rock Plant. It seems that if you tweak the fuel system in the hopes of better performance or engine operation there can be problems with codes unless the owner has the appropriate tune. I have the tunes from Brenspeed for higher octane but I prefer to leave the octane level at 87.

Yes, I really think the op needs to figure out what tune he currently is running and run the appropriate fuel. Hopefully he has the tuner still.
It's been 6 hours since he's posted here though so he must be dead:lol:lol

if he lives in Ottawa he could drive over to Pickering and have the issue checked out by DaSilva Racing.

It's tuned for 94. It's a bama 94race tune - I put 94 in and it ran fine even with the cel. I cleared the code (still have the tuner ) and I will see if it comes back

Custom tuning ? This is the kinda stuff I am looking for - tuning via emailing data logs is likely why I have issues - I want something more custom and local like a dyno tune

def67 05-18-2015 10:39 AM

Welcome to CMOC by the way! Post up some pics of your 13 when you get a chance. A custom tune will for sure be better than an e-mail tune.

Quick picture for now - custom plates are being transferred from my mazdaspeed 3 "RUKKUS"

Nice looking ride, congrats. Must be a nice step up from a Mazda.

07procharger 05-18-2015 03:18 PM

Ok I'm going to jump in on one point....If you have good email tuner, it can be just as good as a dyno tune. I hear tons of people on the net saying "oh man get that thing dyno tuned bro"

Well....I'm pushing 700 horse to the rear on a stroked motor with 20 pounds of boost and water meth injection { I also have a 200 shot of nitrous waiting to go into the engine}. And guess what, it was tuned and data logged all be email.

and my tuner lives in Venezuela. Although a dyno WILL tell you what your car is making for power.

So don't be afraid of email tunes...just be afraid of who is writing the tunes for you. Research on the tuner is key...if he is any good...he will have a following behind him.

P.M me for my tuners info if you are interested.

How does an American built car sing a tune in a different language? :D

Anyone have opinions on bama tuning ?? I feel so uncomfortable not knowing this platform. I come from a car I knew so well so to be learning all over again is kind of overwhelming

def67 05-18-2015 06:46 PM

Ken probably knows better than me about tuning, but I have read good things about their customer service and rarely see threads about their tuning problems.

Ohtobbad 05-19-2015 04:22 AM

Sounds like Lito and he knows his stuff :)

Autonut 05-19-2015 06:55 PM

Welcome to CMOC. Wow, how did I miss this thread? I live here 24 / 7. With that being said, I have the Bama tuner and have had no problems. I'm happy with them. :tup

07procharger 05-19-2015 07:03 PM

My first tuner and tune was from bama. But back when it was bamachips. When Doug was a one man show working out of his house. His tune was ok. But it was just a N/A Tune and not much to it. I don't believe he is even with bama tuning anymore. Somthing went down over there.

So I can't comment on a current bama tune. Although they do have a following.

Do you find at idle you will run rich? My a/f will go upto 11.5 then back to 14. It goes up and down pretty much every time I hit a light. Also , when did you complete your tune ?? It has been 2 days since I had the cel and the car runs great otherwise

rukkusstang 05-19-2015 10:19 PM

Btw you are all much nicer then I expected . The reason I say this is that the last forum I frequented was very harsh and disrespectful . Thanks for all the help so far!

I bet I know which forum that was! Stick around and tell all your mustang friends about us!:tup

Sweeping is normal depending what wide band you have.

Mine sweeps from 14.0 to 15.6 at idle.

Going to 11 seems a little odd. I may have missed it but have you thrown a code at all?

Good one.

rukkusstang 05-20-2015 01:01 PM

Issues found - air raid intake , the hard plastic that connects the cone to the tubing bent from over tightening which caused an airleak out the side . Had to order a new part from air raid

def67 05-20-2015 01:08 PM

Good to here you found the problem!
