Talking Cutoff switch - street cars

Hello Bob:

You will not require a cut-off switch.

Mike Bennett
Manager
Toronto Motorsports Park

Mike,
This being a year later, does this still stand? Or do we "streeters"
have to install the cut-off switch?

Regards,
Bob Webb

If you had to use one and it's a street car, could you just hang one out of the trunk lid? Like pull the wire out and close the lid on it and leave it there?

These are usually pretty hefty switches 250 amps or so. I'm thinking something like that would have to be mounted properly. It'd prolly depend on the tech or their mood..

I think that's the key here. I know of 2 people who were told about not having a switch more than once last year at TMP by 2 different tech guys. They could still get sticky, it's technically an IHRA rule and could be enforced.

Also Mike Bennett replied to you, from what I understand he has quit the facility to move onwards and upwards after the end of May so there will be a new manager coming on board so things could still change.

Hiding a switch really isn't that big of a deal. I have mine behind my rear plate with my plate spaced out 3/4". Show up to race, plate is off. With the plate on it's completly out of sight and not many people realize the plate is pushed outwards slightly.

Did you have to drill any sheetmetal to do that?
