Drag Rubber need help
I still have the orignal mach 1 rims and I want to put a drag tire on her but the rim is a seventeen inch rim what is the biggest drag tire I can stuff in the rear wheel well without any mods. Also what is the best drag tire for hooking up but best bang for dollar. Can anyone help me out??? I will install at the track so no street driving onn these tires. Thanks for all the help.

These days you can a drag radial from 15 inchers to 20's, so noworries there.
All you need is to decide on brand.
You got Nitto which have to different styles now, Mickey Thompsons which also have to different styles, Hoosiers, then there is the E.T Streets that are dot approved.
But if you plan on summer day to day use, the only ones that will be safe are the original Nitto's NT555R Drag Radial, plus they have a longer life then the rest, but if you want the best sticky tire for your money, and you do not plan on driving on them on a day to day, the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial will not disappoint, they are not safe in the ran though.

Use a pair of some other wheels to put the track tires on. Your Mach I wheels are only 8" wide, and most of the 17" drag tires are going to be designed to go on 9 - 10" wheels. Pretty much the only exception I can think of is the Nitto drag radial, their 275/40/17 is more like a 255 or 265, so they will go on an 8" wheel without too much of a squeeze.
My suggestion is a set of 15 x 8 or 15 x 10" wheels, with 275/50R15 or equivalent size drag tires. Mickey Thompson E-T Streets are a decent tire for a reasonable price.
