T8ERS 12-06-2004 11:00 PM

I'd love to give it a try!! ;)

BlueGT 12-07-2004 12:12 AM

Not really into road racing myself but I love to watch.

If I'm feeling brave, I might beat a few laps into the Stang :D

Clean_5oh 12-16-2004 03:01 AM

I shall be there with some Mustangs friends.. I hear it's good times

mstang 12-28-2004 04:12 PM

Mustangs at Mosport is a BLAST!
You won't be able to wipe the smile off your face!
Mach1Steve does a great job organizing it.
You have the whole day to really get to know your Mustang, what she can (and can't) do. I have found a new respect for my '79 5.0L, and she has run better coming home than going there.
We will have to start a pool to see who can guess how many laps Steve will get in this year. I'll take 10!
(Hopefully that won't get me banned from this site.)

mach1steve 12-28-2004 04:27 PM

Mosport

Thanks Buddy........
Are we going to see you there in a new 05 GT on the Track this year ?
And just for your info... I lasted the whole Event last year! (my breakdown was kind enough to happen over lunchtime, so I could fix it and not miss any Laps !!), mind you it is the 1st year of 3 that I have finished the day, without a either :
a) belt shifted tires
b) a broken pushrod

So there !
hehe
Mach1steve

mstang 12-28-2004 05:57 PM

I don't know which I will take, but sure ain't gonna miss it this year!
I love driving the 'Stang. There is something about old technology that makes Mosport so much fun...
On the other hand, winding out the '05 on Mario Andretti straight...
Damn, its almost six months away. How many sleeps till Mosport?!
(You don't count the night before!)

j-roc 12-28-2004 11:55 PM

I dont think my drag springs would like a road course much. :D

BIZ 12-29-2004 07:25 AM

Think I may have to go and enter the Cobra...or the Focus...Dam which one...lol

What does my 175.00 get me? How many laps?
Are cars allowed to pass or do you just follow each other around the track???

Khaine 12-30-2004 01:49 PM

I know I'll be there this year, just don't know if I'm going to run... depends alot on if my car is put together and running....

and of course, I can also look forward to breaking something... last time it was a lower control arm :tup

ScarSnake 12-31-2004 10:24 AM

Steve will be along sometime to explain. In the meantime, you can figure on it being similar to other track days. Actually, have you been on track before?

I think he sets up three groups, vintage, intermediate, and fast. Each group is on track for twenty minutes. So, you'll get around 1 1/2 hours of track time. But if/when there are wipeouts or something, the delays cut into the track time. Bring at least one extra can of gas, or expect to drive down the road to the gas station.

There are several instructors to ride with people who've never been on the track before, or would like some assistance with the line. Take advantage of this!

At $175, it is the least expensive way to get on Mosport. I don't think I've ever seen it less than $250, and its typically $300-$350.

How Mosport works

Scarsnake is right on........
We rotate through 3 Groups, each getting 20 minutes of Track time at a shot.
20 minutes doesn't sound like very much, but it takes alot out of you beleive it or not.... you're senses are VERY focused while on the Track.
It is possible to get 6 or 7 sessions in if we don't get many spins. I think I got 4 in last year, but we had a lot of spins, and got off to slow start in the morning.
Drivers Meeting 2 weeks prior to the Event is mandatory for all Rookies!
Rookies to this Event are not allowed onto the Track until they have a check-out ride with an Instructor. There are usually between 5 & 7 Instructors and they are FREE for you to book, and learn with.

Most important thing to do to your car, is have new Brake pads installed, your gonna need em ! Better yet upgrade to a Hawk or equivalent Brake Pad (see www.muggziperformance.com for these items).

Passing is allowed on the Mario Andretti Straight, but only if the driver ahead signals it is OK to do so, you must then move off the line to go around them. In the FAST Group we allow passing on the Grandstand Straight also. No passing allowed anywhere else on the Track, no exceptions.
Spectators are allowed, but only if they know a participant, no dogs or small children. Passengers are allowed (over 16yrs of age), as long as they have a Helmet too !
The best spent $175 you have ever spent !
Keep in mind your Insurance is void the minute you drive onto Mosport property. Not a good idea to tell your insurance company ANYTHING about this Event.
Cheers & Happy New Year !

Thanks fo the update! Sounds like a lot of fun!!!

I have been on a track before but not with my car, it was a Cayuga formula 2000 track day. Driver instruction with a open wheel car. We went out in groups of 4 and a instructor watched us drive and made suggestions on how to improve our lines.

Look forward to checking this one out!

Happy new year!!!

I can say from experience - last year was my first time on any track - it is amazing!! It is exhausting too. A lot of concentration to keep your car on the track and remember the line etc... but where else can you run your car at like 230km/h legally? And always be like :D everytime you pit?

Last year my car was 100% stock - even had the stock shifter.
This year will be different and I can't wait.

Overall, everything is well organized and there's plenty of time on the track - as others mentioned - assuming no problems while on the track. Like that '99 (Green "Leaf") Cobra who passes me (holy sh*t where'd he come from) and then blows his rear diff :)

My registration form and cheque are beside me... just need to *slobber* *slobber* seal the envelope. :)

If you are planning on coming to just observe, I would highly recommend not driving your Mustang. There are some good places around the track where you can get a good angle to watch a certain corner. But it isn't an easy - smooth - drive to get there.

Mosport has an onsite photography company that takes amazing shots!
I think last year the CD was about $50 or so... and it has about 30 "general" shots at various corners... http://www.revlis.net/gallery/other_mosport and a lot more of your individual car. http://www.revlis.net/gallery/mosport (my car was 100% stock last year at Mosport)

:chacha:

Jack Raccoon! 02-27-2005 08:13 PM

Last year 4 groups. 1 Vintage, 2 Intermediate, 1 Fast. Vintage 4 sessions, the rest 3. 2 morning, 2 afternoon sessions each should be a reasonable goal for the day. Steve... if I can help, let me know.

mach1steve 02-27-2005 08:29 PM

Track time

We are streamlining the morning this year and starting earlier. We should all get 1 extra session in before Lunchtime, and if you guys stop spinning out and spilling fluids all over the track (lol) we'll get an extra session in the afternoon.
We are looking to keep it down to 3 Groups....... 1 Vintage Group - 1 Intermediate Group - 1 Fast Group......

Wasn't there like 50 cars in the Int. last year?

Hi. I live 5 min. from the Mosport track and would like to be a spectator. My mustang is off the road right now and I don't have any track experience anyway. Would I be able to watch even tho I don't know anyone? Let me know. Thanks.

Of course you can come out to watch!

You will be surprised how many people you will know or recognize from this forum and others.

There will be lots of drivers with an empty passenger seat that you could catch a ride with (as long as you don't leave the seat brown!).

There is also a need for volunteers for marshalling and logistics.
PM Mach1Steve if you want to help out there.
