First thing, you're NOT racing, despite Steve's title of "Race Director" for GHMA.

All passing is done in controlled zones on the straights, and only after a point-by signal from the car in front.

You can show up in a completely stock car and have a great day. Just make sure that the suspension is tight, the brake fluid is flushed and replaced recently, brake pad material is at least 50%, and your tires are decent.

The GHMA day is primarily a lapping day, with limited in-car instruction for the first half of the day for the novices, and for anyone who requests it (if an instructor is available for that session). If you are concerned about tackling this track without prior experience, you may want to consider a day at one of the advanced driving schools that run at the development track at Mosport. That way you will get some classroom instruction on the basics of car control and track driving, and be able to practice it in a safer environment, before heading out on to the main track.

Don't get me wrong, you can go to the big track as a complete newbie, and have a fantastic day. But you have to do it with your enthusiasm in check, and keep your head on straight ... it is what is known as a "consequences track" ... meaning that if you go off the track, there more than likely will be consequences that are unpleasant for you and your car.

If people are interested I can give you some e-mail addresses for contacts that are running several events each year on the development track at Mosport. I help out at many of them, and they are good value and great fun.

cheers

how much to rent the track ?

For the guy who asked how much to rent the track ?

Well by the time you pay for the track, club liability insurance, hire a Safety Tow Truck on scene, pay for the Ambulance to be there all day, and the $1,100 for the Track Marshals, etc etc.... it adds up to about $8,500 - $9,000just for 1 day.

Not chump change, and Clubs like ours (www.ghma.on.ca) go out on a limb every year hoping we will cover our costs, as we are a non-profit club.

We charge $200 / driver... so you do the math to see how many you need to break even. We ususally get just enough to do so.

Cheers
