NA S197 in the 11's :)

Went to the track last sunday and finally broke that 12.0 barrier I was fighting for a year!

Best runs of the day 11.99 @ 117mph, 11.98 @ 117mph 11.97 @ 118mph.

Still running the stock long block :chacha:

I made some changes over the winter with new drag rims, rear spool, Strange drag brakes, anti roll bar..

The track wasn't the greatest so I was only leaving at 5400 rpms.. Usually launch this thing at 6200. Im ready to rock for the osca season openner

Hey Congratulations Pal. 11.99 @ 117mph - thats one hell of a time!

Matt D 04-13-2010 04:44 PM

11.97 @ 118 is my best so far :P

VAEM 04-13-2010 04:56 PM

I stand corrected, 11.97 @ 118mph! Ok, you HAVE to have the fastest S197 in the GTA!

Matt D 04-13-2010 04:58 PM

Nah there are faster ones... but fastest all motor one by far xD

1low03gt 04-13-2010 07:50 PM

SNAKEBITE 04-13-2010 09:12 PM

What is the low time that you are shooting for? Congrats

kena 04-13-2010 09:42 PM

It's that Ford Racing intake manifold you have there Matt. BTW are they available at your store yet? Oh good runs by the way.

herbz 04-13-2010 11:12 PM

Nice! Congrats man. Most would love to be even close to that quick N/A.

Im going to change the front spring rate and raise the car a bit for better transfer. I basicly want to master this set up and shoot for a 1.55 sixty foot and see what kind of et I can get out of her.

Then I will be doing my head/cam combo and shoot for 4-410 wrhp and netting low low 11's

1low03gt 04-15-2010 08:17 PM

That's awesome! It's amazing how much of it is in the suspension set up,and tuning! What cam's to you plan on using?Any plans to run a power adder of some sort down the road?

Comp 127500 cam's. I do plan on a power adder... just waiting to build the short block because when I do I want 600+

Vortech YSI with an 8 rib set up, big air to air cooler, with a T56 magnum transmission. Ultimate goal for this car is to have a chute and drive it around the street, go to the track and run 9's :D

SNAKEBITE 04-15-2010 11:43 PM

^^^that sounds like fun^^^

1low03gt 04-16-2010 07:51 PM

Nice. You definitely sound like your having way to much fun LOL!!:tup
Will be sweet seeing a street car running 9's!How about a cage?

Good question. Do you need a cage to run 9's:tup

1low03gt 04-16-2010 10:05 PM

If i remember correctly, you need one once you dip into the 11's.

SNAKEBITE 04-16-2010 10:37 PM

Wow that number seems high but I am no drag racer, obviously

1low03gt 04-16-2010 10:47 PM

Yeah, roll bars for hardtops running 11.99 to 10.00,anything quicker must have a cage, and 13.99 to 11.00 for verts, and if quicker it must have a cage.

yellowgt02 04-16-2010 11:03 PM

Nice man! Thats moving out for a N/A Motor.

Dont forget about all the other safety stuff that goes with it as well. Fire Jacket/Suit, Bellhousing, DS Loop, etc. Once you hit 135mph, you will need a 10 point cage will be good to 8.50. You technically dont need a Chute until you hit 150mph.

11:49 or faster for a bar.

So it changed.I got my info from an old 5.0 zine i have, and somewhat corrected myself a few posts up,which still is incorrect LOL!

kena 04-16-2010 11:15 PM

11:50 is my target when ever I get my motor built (4th frigging day of never by the looks of it) as I want to avoid the bar at least for a while.

Matt D 04-16-2010 11:59 PM

11.50 and quicker you need a cage... You can get away with low 11's high 10's usually at local tracks without them kicking you off but anywhere I go in the states.. no Chance. Eventually it will be caged.. not just because I have to but for saftey aswell.

Matt D 04-17-2010 12:03 AM

at 140mph+ it's nice to have the chute, saves a ton of brakes.. lol I will keep updating the car as the speed's get quicker. I already have a drive shaft loop and the 5 point cam locl belts

Cool,and thanks!:tup

rampant racing 10-31-2010 11:55 AM

nice runs matt.i'm thinking a drag racing rear anti roll bar would help you alot as it would keep your car from twisting and using up energy that could be going to the rear wheels instead.i notice in your avatar pic it is twisting pretty good.that is also a good reason to cage it.
