95 stang GT: what size tires should i go with for my 18's?

As the topic said, Im debating (lacking in knowledge) on what size tires to go with, I have a 95 stang GT, and i bought a set of 18" Cobra wheels, the rears are 10" wide and the fronts are 9" wide. . . .

SNAKEBITE 02-25-2009 05:44 PM

Back 275-295 fronts 255-275. Mind you that's just me. More replies to follow I'm sure.:tup

so if i went with 265 for the front and 295 for the rear should i go with 40's for the front and 35's for the rear, would that keep me roughly the same diameter?

Yes. That would work.

i have 235 45 17`s on my front
and 255 40 17`s on the rear,... wider rear wheel lower profile

Keep in mind that the wheel wells are much larger then a fox. Is the car lowered?

thanks guys, my car is not lowered, yet. I think i may do it this summer, undecided yet. who here has a 94-98 stang with 18's and what are you running for rubber??

Stang Illusions 5.0L 02-27-2009 06:33 PM

Most people either run the 18" Cobra's, or the 18" Saleen's...rubber size I can't answer that sorry, im not a tire shop :)

With 18's,you want to run 35 series. This way you will keep with the same overall tire radius, plus some sort of comfort at the same time.
You would be safe with a 285 out back for sure,295's will be close.
for the front,anywhere from 245 to 275.
On other popular boards i go too,the above is the average to what guys are running for rubber on 18's.:tup

If i went 285/35/18 for the rear and 275/35/18 for the front the radius on the fronts will be smaller then the rears, shouldnt i go with a 275/40/ for the front, my wheels are staggered too, my fronts are 9" wide with a 1" lip and the rears are 10" wide with a 3" lip i believe. . .

Thanks guys

Hope this helps...............

The stock wheels on our 94-95 gt cars (I own a 95 gt) are 17x8, with a tire size of 245/45r17.

On 18x9 f & 18x10r rims which are staggered, I would suggest these tire sizes:

F- 255/40r18
R- 295/35r18

I have a tire size calculator program on my computer, these would be a great match...here is comparison of stock size tires to the new tire sizes:

ST) Stock Tire - 245/45R17
R)) Rear Tire - 295/35R18
F)) Front Tire - 255/40R18

ST) Section Width: 9.64 in 245 mm
R)) Section Width: 11.61 in 295 mm
F)) Section Width: 10.03 in 255 mm

ST) Rim Diameter: 17 in 431.8 mm
R)) Rim Diameter: 18 in 457.2 mm
F)) Rim Diameter: 18 in 457.2 mm

ST) Rim Width Range: 7.5 - 9 in
R)) Rim Width Range: 10 - 11.5 in
F)) Rim Width Range: 8.5 - 10 in

ST) Overall Diameter: 25.68 in 652.27 mm
R)) Overall Diameter: 26.12 in 663.44 mm
F)) Overall Diameter: 26.03 in 661.16 mm

ST) Sidewall Height: 4.34 in 110.23 mm
R)) Sidewall Height: 4.06 in 103.12 mm
F)) Sidewall Height: 4.01 in 101.85 mm

ST) Radius: 12.84 in 326.13 mm
R)) Radius: 13.06 in 331.72 mm
F)) Radius: 13.01 in 330.45 mm

ST) Circumference: 80.67 in 2049.0 mm
R)) Circumference: 82.05 in 2084.0 mm
F)) Circumference: 81.77 in 2076.9 mm

R)) Revs per Mile: 796.3
F)) Revs per Mile: 799.0

82 GT,
Very nice post, thats just the info I was looking for, I'm going to use those tire sizes. Thank you very much,

Josh

I would agree with those recommendations, especially the front. On a 94-98, anything wider than a 255 on the front is going to look too big, and end up throwing stones and crap on the front fender and door ... a buddy of mine ran in to that with 275/40/17 on 9" wheels all around on his 95.

cheers
Ed N.
