Gear crunch

When shifting hard from 1st to 2nd, the gears grind. Someone told me that a different fluid may correct it. Another told me that the syncro is getting bad and should be replaced. Any ideas?

You could try the fluid change first but it probably the syncro, my T5 does it on the 2-3 shift when its cold somtimes.

Thanks for the info. I have already changed the fluid but it didn't make a difference. Guess I'll take the gearbox out and have a look, see.

Mine used to do that until i replaced the clutch/flywheel. Thought that the throw out bearing was the problem and it turned out that my input shaft from my tranny is all wiggly. Since I have replaced the clutch/flywheel assembly, it doesn't grind gears anymore but it does whine like crazy still... hate it...
