Kamloops gear install

Anyone in the Kamloops/Kelowna area of BC know any good shops to do a gear install (I have all the parts right down to oil). Local Ford dealer quoted over $700 for the labour!!!

Ouch on the install. I do not know anyone out your way, sorry

Kaisoboy 04-09-2010 09:04 AM

$700 is actually not bad considering what is involved with the install. You may be able to have it done cheeper for around $500) but that's about it. Remove wheels, remove brakes, pull plate, remove driveshaft, pull axles, pull gears, remove dif. pinion, install gears, adjust gears, then reinstall everything, calibrate car to new gears, test.

Quite involved...and is highly recommended that it be done by a shop. Not something you want to tackle in the driveway unless you know what you are doing. I know of a couple of guys that did the install on thier own and ended up taking it to a shop because once they finished the install and thought they had it all aligned they got the dreaded rear diff. wine.

Here is what is involved:

Cheers

in all honesty I'd just go to Orchard ford in kelowna (they are also a roush/FRPP dealer) for that one.. Kaisoboy is right.. there is a heck of a lot involved with doing gears. but IMO, to make it truely worth it get a t-loc while your 8.8" is apart. unless you have one already

Thank you, Thank you....I'll be here for the rest of the week!!! Enjoy Kaiso's limited knowledge show!!! LOL

Thanks guys, appreciate the info and yes I'm coming to the sad realization it isn't such a bad deal...definitely not a driveway project (for me anyway). Once again this proves to be the best Canadian Mustang board hands down :tup

I think RPatyna paid in and around 400 for the install here

Kaisoboy 04-09-2010 09:54 PM

Yeah, i think you are right. He also went to a SVT dealer as well. I think Advantage.

His car is an 01 Cobra.

It has IRS, so there is a bit more involved in doing the gears. Its easier to remove the pumpkin and take it to a shop to have it done.

No Robs is a S197. So you may have a point.

I can check what our system quotes when I go to work and see, will also ask my techs and see what actual time would be. I work at the Vernon Ford store right between Kamloops and Kelowna.

No worries wiplash, it goes under the knife tomorrow. Thank you for the offer though. :tup

Well, bad day!! The dealer today kept the car all day and didn't even start, then wanted MORE money because they didn't realize it was IRS (even though we had discussed in depth). I have Ford Racing gear set 4209G410A, anyone know the difference between 4209G410A and 4209G410M? Are there any differences?

update

had the install done in Surrey, went well but WICKED driveline vibration at 130KPH on the 4hr. drive home. Ordered Al driveshaft (and new Magnaflow catback cause, well the car is already up on jack stands anyway :) ) Now my in-laws are here all weekend and I can't get in the garage to see if the new driveshaft makes the problem go away :banghead:
