Royal Purple... Yay or Nay
I've heard great things about Royal Purple. Especially when I talk to people about the first oil change after the break in period.
So I pose this to you. Is Royal Purple worth it immediately after the break in and afterwards as regular maintenance? Or is it pricey for no reason? |
I am not a huge fan of synthetics for no other reason than they are expensive.
Do I run royal purple, no. Would I, no unless I got it for free. I currently have a good hook up with Castrol so I get a ton of synthetic stuff for free, even my daily gets oil changes every 2500-3000 km. Do I think Royal Purple is needed after the first oil change, 100% no. Use regular oil and do oil changes every 3000 km. Of course, there may be some science behind it that says i'm totally mental. But I know every car I have owned has used regular oil until this past 2 years. |
thank you.
I figured the price was grosly inflated for no reason really. I was planning on sticking to synthetic blend .. I think my car right now says 10/50? I don't remember >.> |
Hey it's your dime to spend where you want to! I use Royal Purple in the Mach and it works nicely. Is it worth the extra? I guess to me it is. Do I know if it works better than Castrol or Motorcraft or bulk! Nope! But I still use it.
All oils breal down some quicker than others and some keep their viscosty longer at a higher heat. Royal Purple claims to do a good job at this. I also like the Top Fuel car they had in he early 90's and always wanted to use their oil! So Ido. Keep your oil changed regularly and you will not have a problem with any of them. |
I use royal purple in my transmisson and it does feel better , as for the engine that's a bit rich for me .

yeah you're right cruzen
she's not going to be a full out drag car. just something fun for the summers and yeah the occasional stomp, not going to be strung out for long periods of time [or repeatedly] |
I like to waste my 85.00 a year (700-1000km) so I run Royal or Mobil 1. If there is no difference in oil may I recommend the 2.00 a quart no name junk:biggrin:

use nothing but full synth in my cars. i want to keep them and the extra buck cant hurt.
had a 78 tbird and had nothing but mobil 1 all the time never had a block heater and never needed one(living in winnipeg so 30-40below not uncommon) and when i took it apart there was nothing in the valve covers and oilpan looked like new and still had full compression after 250,000km so i think that the mobil had a lot to do with it. even after 5,000km the oil was still har the read on the dip stick |
I run Royal Purple, I changed from Mobile 1. I noticed a difference, no power increase was felt but the motor is definetly quieter.
