RP is one of the few true synthetics on the market today. It is on par with Amsoil which is a Polyalphaolefin Group IV synthetic base.

A friend of mine uses only Royal Purple in his '87 Monte Carlo, that puts out almost 700 hp. He swears by the stuff. I, personally, only use Mobil 1 synthetic in all our vehicles, as well as our lawnmower, compressor, and snowblower. Corvettes, Evos, Vipers, and Porsches come with Mobil 1 from the factory, so that says something to me. If Royal Purple was less than $12 a quart, I might use it. Until then, Mobil 1 for me.:tup

Do I run royal purple, no. Would I, no unless I got it for free. I currently have a good hook up with Castrol so I get a ton of synthetic stuff for free, even my daily gets oil changes every 2500-3000 km.

Of course, there may be some science behind it that says i'm totally mental. But I know every car I have owned has used regular oil until this past 2 years.

I have opened up engines with high mileage with conventional and synthetic oils used. The differance is dramatic. The cars with synthetic do not have all that build up, especialy on the valve train.

Same here on the Mobil 1.
I wait for it to go on sale somewhere and stock up.

I bought the wifes car brand new in 1999 and since new have only ever put 100% synthetic in it and to this day the engine runs so strong and quiet.

I put synthetic in my lawnmower and snowblower as well and so far have never had an engine failure.

But.....my brother in law has a 1997 Ford F150 and he doesn't even do oil changes on it (he just tops it up when the dipstick is low....lazy bastard!lol).
The truck just rolled 200,000 km on the original engine but its gotta be a ticking time bomb.

I imagine it is due to the high detergent levels in the synthetic oil engines, keeps them good and clean.

I'm using Amsoil in both the motor and tranny, but when it comes time for a rebuild, I think i will be using RP, at least for the breakin period. The only problem I've found with the Amsoil is the availability! They sell it here in town, at both Cdn Tire and Peavey Mart, but quite often their shelves are not fully stocked, especially with 0w30 signature series, which I use. I just have to make sure I'm planning ahead, and have them order it in.:)

i use RP in my car....no problems....seems to be that synthetic can last longer and doesnt burn as much as conventional...
