Short Throw Shifters
Hey;
Just wondering what the best aftermarket short throw shifter is out there? I was looking at HURST but cannot find any online? Anyways, let me know what some of you have and if you would recommend or not... Thanks!:) 2004 GT |
In my 03 Mach I have used a Pro 5 and now have a MGW, both are about the same which is good. Nice shifting and no issues. Most people say that MGW is better and that is why I switched the Pro 5 out but I can not tell the difference between the 2 of them!
|
i'm currently running a steeda tri-ax short throw, on my v6 and i was quite happy with that one, so i'm getting another steeda tri-ax for my 99 4.6L
i love it, haven't missed a shift yet |
Steeda here:tup
|
Pro 5.0 shifter. Have used it in all my mustangs :)
eBay search for pro 5.0 shifters Join the darkside! :wiggle: |
just switched to mgw. from what i hear they is the shiz. but i havnt been able to drive my car yet so we will see.
|
So basically what I am hearing is that Pro 5, Steeda, and MGW seem to be great shifters and really cant go wrong with any of the 3...problem free..No complaints?...
And has anyone ever tried the Hurst in a mustang?... Any other tips I should know? Thanks Everyone! |

Hurst seems to be a good one also. Over at some other sites I have read some good reviews on them. Here is a pic of one in a Mach. If you want retro this is the one to get for sure. Here is a pic of my MGW with a Hurst ball and button for the line lock.

personally i would stay away from pro 5.0. i busted mine three friggin times at the track. i think IMO they are junk.
|
Does anyone know where I can purchase HURST products?
I personally LOVE the look of that shifter in the above pic...The white knob, chrome stick and the boot are sweet... |

The Tri-ax and Pro 5.0 are the two best shifters on the market IMO. I never really liked the feel of hurst or B&M.
|
I had a Hurst in my 94 GT it was alright, I love my B&M shifter in my 2002 GT but am seriously thinking of switching to a MGW because I hear nothing but good things.

steeda tri-ax
|
SO
Steeda Tri-Ax And MGW are, from the posts, the favorite 2 The MGW has stops, and a lifetime warranty on the handle, and its states it is the quietest A/M shifter... Steeda looks to have a better/more comfortable position? |
Steeda
It is hard to comment on the different brands but I have the Steeda tri-ax and it is great , very positive shifts and combined with Royal purple transmisson fluid I am very happy . Des

personally, IMO i think you'd be pretty happy with either.:tup I have the tri-ax and love it, but wouldn't mind trying an MGW...
|
|
ive never had anything but MGW in my stangs and they worked amazing!
+1 for MGW |
that crome hurst shifter is a kit that is around 80 buxs. MOPAC in langley, BC has them. I'll be buying one soon but I should tell you that it's just a boot, knob, stick. You'll still need the shifter itself. It's goes for around 150.
IF you really want it I can help you get it from out here. Since I would buy one myself I could send it to ya via COD. Then I'd just take the coin and go get myself another. lemme know... I work 5 blocks from mopac. |
I am leaning towards the Steeda Tri-Ax
But I am liking the reviews on the MGW If I purchase the Steeda Tri-Ax it will be from Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle But where can the MGW be purchased? |
Thanks again for all the reply's
VERY VERY HELPFUL!!! |

I've got the Hurst Super Short Throw in my fox. I really like it. No missed shifts at the track so I'm happy. And the retro look is cool - my shifter matches the factory one in my Dad's '71 Mach1!!
|
But where can the MGW be purchased?
|
I use a steeda, wouldn't trade it for anything, just installed it a few weeks ago. great quality.
|
I to have a HURST short throw with an 8 ball on it
|
I used to have a Pro 5.0 shifter in my old 88 and loved it,... allen screws for adjustment,... really nice shifter.
|
