Which one, Turbo or Supercharger?
 

I am planning for next years mods and would like some input on which people would prefer for a 4.6 SOHC.

I have riden in a 5.0l with a paxton a few years back as well as an older cobra with a vortex supercharger and I am familar with how they felt. The only turbo car I was in was when I test drove a sunbird with a 4 banger turbo and it felt like a power band kicking in.

This is what I am starting with

4.6L SOHC stock internals
Underdrive pulleys
Accufab TB and Plenum
Bassani Catted X Pipe
Magnaflow Cat back
Steeda CAI
SCT Programmer


The questions I have

How much can the stock engine handle?
Cost difference?
Emmisions?
How much can the stock clutch and tranny withstand?
Twin turbo or single?
Twin screw or centifugal supercharger?
Should I forget power adders, pull the engine and rebuilt with stonger components before thinking of power adders?


I am sure some of you have riden in different cars with different power adders so some of you can kick in and let me know which you though was kick A$$ as far as fun factor.

what do you really want out of it? whats a long term goal, track or street?

Car will see the track 2 times a year. Mainly street driven.

Looking for something different but looking for any input as to pro's con's on superchargers or turbos with people that have had experience with either or both.


Just looking for opinions on how far I can go with my current setup, I don't want to head in the wrong direction.

You can check out STS and their rear mounted turbo kits. Saves on all the hot exhaust under the hood.

Probably a good chance that I would not have to go to a tubular K member either but I would assume the cost would be equal since you will now have to run a pipe from the back to the front.

There must be more of a lag with the turbo further back?

Well, as you know Warren and I are doing the Procharger setup, and Ill give you my 2 cents.
I wish I would have saved a little bit more to get a KB, and say good bye to your UDP's and I hope you have alot of money!

I'm not really familiar on their kits, but they do say the lag is vary little. Also there is no need for a IC cuz the air gets cooled down by the time it gets to the front.

Id screw it, its always there right when you need it. I love turbos but as the size increases so does the lag, off the line lag isnt bad at all, its cornering. what kind of power were you thinking. I know that the STS works but I dont buy the no-lag, Id love to try one to see though

Well It does not look like the 99 to 04 mustang is very popular for turbos. I went to the STS site and they do not offer it for those years same goes for turbo-kits.com

Does anyone know any other sites.

I would like to say if you want all out power the turbo is the way, don`t worry about lag with todays turbo`s you won`t have any but two down sides are heat and cost. I would never have another car that didn`t have one.
