Cool How to take care of your PAINTED and CLEARCOATED wheels - MANY Pics Inside!

Hey ladies and gents,

I just got out of getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled, so I had taken some days off to chill and relax at home. After a bit too much overclocking and gaming I got bored and decided to play around with the wheels prior to putting them on. Clean em' up nice and tidy.
As you'll see (eventually) the wheels I have are painted and clear coated, much like the paint on our cars. I wanted to give this the same treatment I give my car.
For some of you, this is going to be quite a long, unnccessary process (I respect that) but for me, I wanted to test my detailing product durability, I wanted my wheels to be shiny, even if temporary.

I've taken A LOT of pictures, I apologize if this is a bother for you but I personally find that the more, the merrier; Its good to see a product at work.

I tend to stick with a lot of Zaino product, but as you'll see in the pictures, I'm open to trying new things, different manufacturers.
Thanks goes out to Tom @ Zaino - ZainoPolish@CarPolish.ca
Adam's Polishes for the hardware and APC [All Purpose Cleaner]
Chris @ EShine for the MF Towels and Buffing Towels

This is my only ride, so it sees Winter every single year, salt, dirt, rain, all that fun stuff; I do my best to keep her damn clean and swirl free.
Moving on, the wheels came out of regular storage, as filthy as the day I took them off to put my Winters on. They were CAKED with dirt, swirl marks, fine scratches and crap load of brake dust.

Again, I had a LOT OF TIME on my hands, but it was fun.

TO ATTEMPT TO 'LOCK IN' ALL THE HARD WORK AND LAYERS OF POLISH I WENT AHEAD AND USED ZAINO Z-CS CLEAR SEALANT FOR THE FIRST TIME (FEEDBACK PENDING) WITH ITS VERY OWN ZAINO #314 CUSTOM APPLICATOR PAD
I was rather disappointed that my brand new Zaino #314 Applicator pad fell tore apart considering that this was lightly used for less than 10-15 minutes in comparison to the two other pads that I used with pressure when applying Z-PC and Z-5 Polish, I'll contact Tom at Zaino.

MOUSEPAD - GET IT? (Okay, I'll stop now)

Only time will tell whether or not this layered product will last. As stated previously, the vehicle is driven everyday and it looks like we're going to have a bit of rain in the upcoming days. If it works, sticks, and remains slick, I'll be happy. If it doesn't, I'll be satisifed to know what work; Its a great durability test.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks!

Definitely is a lot of work, I was seriously quite bored. Looking at about 3 hours of work, took me a bit longer.

Very, very nice!
I'm a huge Zaino fan as well and Tom is a great guy to deal with.

A minor suggestion though;
After putting a coat of Z5 polish and buffing use the Z8 detail spray.
Then put a coat of Z2 polish and use the Z8 detail spray.
Putting an application of detaill spray after each coat of polish really makes the paint pop (not that yours don't) but it also removes any residual polish you may have missed buffing it out.

The ZPC I don't use. As per Tom he said it won't really give you the shine the other polishes do if you're using them. It's a product that "normal" people use to reduce the amount of time to get a decent detail but not quite the same shine as using multiple coats of the Z2 and Z5 polishes.

Awesome job!

Thanks for the comments!

ZPC is an abrasive, only to be used when you need it for minor, miniscule swirls and fine scratches on clear-coated surfaces.

My last convo w/ Tom was all about waiting for Z2/Z5 to bond (6-12 hours) before applying Z8.

Either way, it got Z8 Treatment, came out really well. As for the durability, I'd say a 7/10.

Check out a thread I'll be posting later this afternoon on a complete detail.
