Use Goo Gone, you can get it at any Home Depot. That is what i used to get the left over sticky goo from taking my emblems off.
As for plugs when i first did it to make sure i liked the spoiler delete on my GT,i went to Canadian Tire in there auto section where you can get the replacement odds and ends for cars, you will see some plugs, grab them, get some matching touch up paint, and some 3m two sided tape to stick them on.Once you are sure that is what you want,go see an autobody shop with a good rep,and ask them how much they will do your trunklid for,and mention cash deal.I had mine done for 200 cash back in '03.
As for the holes not lining up,that is very odd, both trunklids (V6 to GT) should be the same as they do share the same base two post spoiler.

i used Goo Gone to get the spoiler off.. was a pain in the butt...
the remaining stuff left on, looks like it needs to be scrapped of.. it is pretty think and was taking forever with the goo gone to come off.. felt like i was making no progress...

i just went out to take off the spoiler again and to put on the ducktail so i can take pics and see if i can get it on without bolting it in since the holes aren't lining up...
no luck... the stock spoiler is stuck back on the back of the car as if i never took it off...
not in the mood to struggle with it today.. especially on a chilly windy day...

I will be hitting up Canadian tire this week and looking for some plug.. i have some touch up paint already so i will use that to cover the top...

thats exactly what i thought, so i ended up getting a ducktail...

once i saw it on up close in person... it didn't do it for me anymore...

i want to put it on once more to see what i think....

plus my buddy helping me out was no help and kept tossing all these other suggestions out so it ruined it for me and i wasn't focused on the ducktail so much...

we'll see... hopefully i can get some new shots soon to get everyones opinion..

I might be moving back there in a couple months... If I do, I might just wait it out then...

You need an contrary opinion so y'all will not falll into groupthink so, I will vote myself into this nasty job and take a contrary opinion.

The '+05 'stang looks naked w/o a spoiler and I find the v6 or pony spoiler to low. One of the things that I like about the V8 is the raised spoiler so when you look into the rear view, you can see it standing proud . Works with my stripes as well but hey, I had a lip spoiler on my MG b GT as well.

Pretty vista blue as well..

My advice..do what you want to..it is your car to enjoy

Grassy in Atlantic Canada thinking that the tulips must be out now around Dows Lake

still undecided.. we'll see..

I know what you mean about the looking naked but once you see it off up close and in person.. looks so much better than in pics..

plus I think the Pony Package spoiler is the same as the GT's... either way... i think it looks good with it our without it.. which makes it tough..

I am not sure about the tulips since I don't drive out that way but I will make a drive by next week on my way back from work and let ya know..

maybe i'll drive up on the grass and snap pics... lol

Please. We really miss the warm spring weather, the tulips and the restaurants in Ottawa. Once the kiddies leave the house, I think you will see us back there.

My mustang is in the stop..I am waiting to see if the tire / rim combo works. It is cold and miserable today. I really want to get some miles under us before MX season starts.

Thanks
Grassy.
