Repairing a fellow forum Member's badly swirled hood

We had a recent event here:
Steeda's Spring Dyno Day

I met some good people and made some friends, I was approached by a local forum member telling me that he used some VERY aggressive compound to on his brand new hood, here is my attempt + success to fix it.

Here are some before Pics:

Even with low lighting you can see how swirled and scratched up the clearcoat is here:

Another shot, after the hood was cleaned, note the depth of the markings under low light:

Some shots under some light:

Note the depth of the monkey sitting in the back:

After several passes using my Porter Cable 7424XP + Meg's 105 + Lake Country Orange Cutting Pad
Rubbed the compound in at 4.5 Speed and then worked it slowly at 5.5 Speed.

Here are some after shots:

Simple how little it takes to remove these kinda things.

Looks great. Just finished getting the swirls out of my paint using Meguiar's Compound W and the Meguiar's Dual Action Polisher.

And how was that for ya?? I just used the same compound with a cheap polisher to do the wifes BMW, and it was painful man...but then again that thing was full of swirls and scratches, and dark colored paint.

The first application was the Compound W with the DA Polisher then I wiped it off with a Meguiar's microfiber towel. The second application was Meguiar's Polish applied with the DA Polisher then wiped off with the microfiber towel. Both the Compound W and Meguiar's polish work together to fill in swirl marks in the clearcoat/paint surface. The final application was Meguiar's Ultimate Wax applied with the DA Polisher then wiped off with the microfiber towel. In all applications I use two microfiber towels one to wipe off the initial residue then the second to bring out the shine.

The key is to use the Meguiar's DA Polisher. It has various settings recommended for swirl removal. Fox example a setting between 3-5 is recommend for the first application and a setting of 2 is recommended for applications 2 & 3. The Meguiar's DA Polisher can be found at Canadian Tire for $249.00 plus tax. I paid $279.00 because of the 12% tax in B.C. Costly but well worth the result.

According to your info your ride is a "69 wife" so how did it get so many swirls?

Something looks that good dude, you can't resist giving it a rubdown every chance you get. Bound to be a few swirls after years of constant attention, good news is that with regular maintenance there's still lots of lubrication and horsepower under the hood. Hey, you asked.
