Tinting Your Tail Lights! (VHT Nightshades)

Hey guys, I don't know how many of you have done this before (all of this is new to me :P) but im about to start a project on my 2003 GT (thought I might as well post it for those who were wanting tinted lights) I will be tinting my Tail Lights, Fogs, Headlights, Quarter Markers. :tup I met a guy with an 04mach 1 who had nicely tinted tail lights and I asked him what brand they were, and he said he did it all himself. I hope this topic hasn't been brought up before, I couldn't find it in the search bar lol! I'll write up what you need, provide some links, and hopefully post some before and after pics! An awesome and cheap way to tint your lights :D

Product needed: VHT Nightshades (10$), 1000 grit sand paper (4$), 2000 grit sand paper (4-6$), Duplicolor Sandable Clear coat spray (10$), painters tape of some sort, and your choice of a car polish and wax, or a headlight refinishing kit for the final treatment. Here are the links! Enjoy the cheap awesome tint!

I did my marker lights and 3rd brake light with the precut film from American Muscle and they turned out really nice.

Im just stingy or something haha, didn't wanna buy the precut for some reason its like insanely dark looking, but in the pouring rain, and some garage time after work I removed the tail lights, sprayed em and clear coated them, polished and wax and holy mother do they look good!! Very impressed for 37 bucks best way IMO.

They look great. No bubbles, pealing? Will it last?

DublDee 12-10-2012 11:20 AM

I did use that product on my 02 F150 before I sold it, and as long as the lens is prepped right, and you use a good clearcoat over the tint, it will last, imo.

DublDee couldn't have said it any better. Not if you do the clear coat it will probably last years! Doesn't peal like a tape, do 2 - 6 coats of the VHT, I did 4 and it was real dark, and then about 6 coats of the clear coat, just do small layers don't spray loads on or it will have runny spots (ask me how I know lol), but I fixed all of that, it was a first time thing came out awesome! take your time do it in a warm garage to dry! :tup
