Yo Snakebite...a question Please..

Hi,

You have recomended two types of products to wax my car. I suspect that you are the person who knows the most about what to put on a car in this forum and you know my physical condition. I do have some help from my 13 year old son.

I just read the above post on the various waxing compounds. Questions:

Should I use a wax and/or polish and then put a sealent over that ? Was this what you recommend ? I have a large circular buffer..I stopped using it before I bought the mustang..I wasn't sure what to use on it.

What about the tires ? Does anything last ?

My Cragar wheels - chrome on aluminim ?

You mentioned once (I believe it was you) that said you would not judge a 'stang if the engine bonnet was down. I really don't have anything to show except for the K&N cold air kit. What would you recommend for cleaning the dirty engin bay..I have seen these nasty washes that clean all the grime off..should i use those ? And what about the rubber / plastic..do I armor all all that stuff. Anfd will it last..lets say i so it on thursday and i srive it acouple of times (no rain) will it be ok on Saturday ?

I have been sitting here thing that if I am going through the pain to do this than I should do it right the first time. I, and I suspect a few others, really appreciate this.

i wouldn't use anything on the tires just wash them well. i say this cause i used to use some kind of tire dressing it made the tires look shiny and new but i noticed i was rubbing off the wrighting so i am guessing it takes a little away from the tire each time you use it.

I notice you have an 07gt. If your car is stored inside other than the summer cruise thingy this is what I personally recommend. (I will asssume the car gets rained on and is parked outside)

Wash the car thouroughly. Use either a clay bar or paint cleaner. Polish/glaze the car with Meguires No7. Wax the car with Meguires NXT Gen Wax. I am sure most will say you only have to do this a couple of times per year. As for the rims I use real chrome polish on chrome rims and aluminum polish on aluminum rims. I use Armourall on the tires and apply it with a rag (no overspray) Interior gets Meguires products for the dash and doors (Plastic parts) and a good leather cleaner/conditioner for the leather.

Your son is old enough to help but it may require a bribe:laughhard When applying any polish/wax/paint cleaner always use the straight forward and back motion as this will prevent spider webbing. I have never used a machine as all the Meguires stuff is easy on easy off. I have to run but any more questions feel free to ask

Not yet, but I will take you advice to the bank. I think this will happen soon.

The car is stored over the winter but spends the reast of the year outside.

Thanks

No problem Oh under the hood I use a damp cloth to wipe EVERYTHING down. You could use a rubber dressing/plastic dressing but you might find it picks up lots of dust. Then you have a mess on your hands if you do not detail it enough

Oh another thing but with your condition this may be impossible. I yank the rims/tires off 2x a year and apply 5-7 coats of polish/wax to the inner rim

Not sure about the rim thing but what did you do to the inside of the engine bonnet before you started just rubbing down with a cloth. Mine is pretty dirty..what sould I start with ?

With this rim thing....now that i have them on..pics when I can get arount to it...I didn't realize there was so much rim behind the spokes..how do you keep clean ?

Grassy

My back hurts just thinking about it..so a detailer may be the answer this year...but I really wanrt to do myself..I am thinking about washing it out doors and moving it into the garage to wax..

I'm not trying to be a turd but I always purchase my vehicles brand new (like your 07gt). When I go to pick up the car they tell me the car has been cleaned and is ready to go. I smile and thank them, then I go home and detail the car. Nedless to say the motor is somewhat clean as the car is new. After the first detail I just stay on top of the total car care program. Last night I spent 3 1/2 hours detailing the engine bay, trunk, door jambs and interior ie vacuuming and Meguiring the interior plactics. The silly part is the car has 180 kms on the odo. I will put approx 75-100 kms per month on the car so it will get detailed once per month. I will wipe the above mentioned items down once per week. What can I say I like a KLEEEEN car.:laughhard

Snakebite,

I wish my was 'stang was new because I don't drive much but it was gently driven for 1 year...carol bought it as a lease buy back with 25K on it...It just passed 30K.

With two kids..both quite active in sports..one being MX, there was just no way..but other than a few things, it was near mint..that is why my wifer bought it for me.

To to recap. I buy some of that over the counter engine coeaner and blast my engine. then i wipe it all down..if there is any rubber too gross, use armerall.

If I can get this done, to any eastern 'stang that goes to mania 5, I PROMISE to open the bonnet. BTW, the tire/rim combo is a killer..even the guy at 'tims was impressed. 10' on front..just over 12 on back. they stick like heck but pic up stones going slow on dirt. The garage washed the car so there are spots on the rims..when I get all the stuff installed..I have a few more things on the dining room table, I will send pics.

I am glad I have found this forum and able to learn and talk to such a great crowd of folks. Life, is getting better

Ian.

That's the great thing about forums. If you need mechanical help Stang Illusions would be my pick Like I was saying I buy new because I am so . I do not want a car where some guy has trashed or beat on it never mind picking his nose etc:laughhard I do not remember if you have any pics but post some if you could.
