Doing my first oil change today...
Anything odd I should know
Is the stick accurate when adding the new oil etc?
How far should I keep it below full?
I was going to go full synthetic but season is coming to an end so I justbought the conventional oil until the spring when I plan to go with Mobil 1 Synthetic
Anyway, if there is anything I should know or any tips post them!

fill it up with oil, then start the engine, wait 5 seconds then check the dipstick...

 

Always check to see if there are metal shavings coming out in the oil. Not sure if the plug is magnetic or not on your model, but no harm in picking one up

 

x2 , dump the ol oil preferably after you have run the car. that way it gets all the crap out. refill , run again, check oil. run again and look for leaks , like oil filter , drain plug ect.

A little late chiming in on this topic but I agree with the magnet idea.

I use a strong magnet and stick it on the base pan near the oil plug or on the oil filter itself (depending on where the magnet holds the strongest).
This keeps any shavings/particles from recirculating and causing issues.

CT even sells a magnetic cap that goes on the end of the filter but you can just a buy a strong magnet somewhere for much less $$.

 

Always use a high quality filter. It does more to save on engine wear than any other "tricks".

 

I have been using FRAM Wearguard?
I dont know if that is a high quality or not?
Also running CASTROL GTX oil, and change it every 7,500KM
