Bought from Tom Morana...
OK,
So I broke down and bought the following from Tom. 1. Stage 3 heads 2. "B" Cam 3. 1.7:1 roller rockers 4. Longer pushrods 5. Custom aluminum valve covers I also told him my goal is 300 rwhp n/a on pump gas so he is going to plane the heads a bit to boost compression. So now I wait to get home from Cold Lake, AB so I can get the parts installed then dyno tuned...looking hopefully by end June to have it all done... :tup thoughts? |
thoughts....
that sounds sick! :tup how much did that set you back if you dont mind me asking? |
Sounds like you will have some extra fun soon, but can you wait that long is the question:lol
|
Sounds great. Would love to see some pics when you get them.
|
Hi,
Well Crafty it cost me about $2900 US as Tom bills in US Funds which kinda sucks for us Canadians but oh well. And you are right Snakebite...I can't wait!! Oh and it will cost me about another $500 for the Dyno tuning..but it will be money well spent! As for pics I will try to take some as we build it..but I have no idea how to post them up on here... |
Don't worry about that ... we'll walk you through the pic posting process!
|
that actually doesn't sound all that bad price wise seeing what you got. and luckily the dollar isn't too bad right now.

Well 1 Low..
You'd be surprised..Tom's shop is just in Scarboro so it would actually be cheaper for you as you could just drive there. |
I guess eh!!But you still got a pretty good deal.
|
Hi All,
Well I talked to Tom today. Seems he has the heads pretty much ready to go...just has to put them back together, ie valves, springs, retainers that sort of stuff. The cam is ready as well as the lifters. He just has to put Morana racing on the custom valve covers and the lot will be ready to ship!! |
Saweet!Building time is almost near!:tup
|
im kinda excited for u man.....let us know what u think ones all is istalled!!!
|
Well,
Here's a bit of an update. I've put the Steeda tune on and she runs pretty well. My roller rockers have arrived, so just waiting on the rest. I'm picking up the new water pump, timing set (car has 94000 Km's so I'll change them out just to be safe) and gaskets tomorrow. Once the parts are in she'll go off and get built. Once the parts are on she goes off for the dyno tune... |
Ok,
Just a bit of an update...my heads, cam and valve covers shipped early last week so I should see them Monday or Tuesday!! |
Yay!!,
My heads, cam and pushrods showed up today!!! |
Awesome news!!!:tup
|
Sweeeeet. Let the building begin!
|
OK,
So the car has gone off to the builders...I should have her back by next weekend assuming I get the new valve covers before then.... |
OK,
So..the car is at the builders..and the teardown has begun. So far he tells me the waterpump does need replacement as well as the smooth idler pully. So, those parts as well as the timing chain will/has been replaced. Still waiting on the valve covers, but hopefully will be here before the end of the week. More to come!! |
Nice to see some progress is happening. Will not be long now!!:tup
|
Congratulations man, thumb: sounds like a great project, but this thread really, REALLY needs some pictures to go with it!!! :gotpics: lol
|
OK..went to see the car last night, the engine is stripped down and is ready to start building back up. I did get some pictures, but I have no idea how to upload them...any help?
|
|
OK,
I'm going to try and post pics of the stripped down engine..hopefully it works! http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_P1100536.jpg http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_P1100535.jpg http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_P1100534.jpg |
Man that looks so clean in there!!:tup
|
Ya,
It looks pretty good, although my engine guy is a bit concerned about the amount of rust on the face of the block. But he assures me he will clean it all up and have it looking as good as new when he's done. He said over all, considering the mileage (94 000KM) everything looks really good. I had to replace the waterpump and the smooth idler pulley as they were really worn. Doing the timing set as well just because of the mileage and the fact that we were right there anyways. I'm hoping all will get buttoned up by next weekend so I can take it to the local cruise in at Pony Corral. |

Definitely looking good!!
A little bit of rust is a good thing to a certain point,it just means that you had now gasket leaks!!:tup |

|
Thanks,
Wait until the roller rockers are in there...too bad you have to cover them up with valve covers..LoL!! Still waiting on the new custom valve covers to arrive..hopefully they will on Friday... |
Thats looking really good - you must be itching to start it up.
|
OK,
Going to try and post the latest pic of the engine... Well ok that didn't work...and I can't get photobucket to work... |
YAHOO!!
It's done!! Now she just needs to go for her dyno tune. She's running a bit lean so I have to take it easy until she get the tune...but definitely more power on tap! |
That is awesome to hear!!:tup Need pics, and video of the finished product!
|
looks like you got a nice little v6 now ... impressive ... gotta see a vid or something though :)
|
Thanks Freemann,
I will try to shoot a short vid this weekend...but Photobucket isn't working...not sure how I'll get it up... |
I am in the process of installing a new Morona longblock 4.2 that Tom built for me.
Did you have any issue with the cam position sensor? |
