although compleatly different, my auto cav had just done the same thing (reason i bought the mustang) tranny was fubarred, the little clutch plates were paper thin, parts that were supposed to have .050 clearences i could stick my finger in :bleh: $1000 later the cav moves again and i own a mustang :tup and :bleh:

so it is my tranny then cuz my tranny is auto too.....would that be the reason y when im stopped at a light my rpms shoot up and down?

dohp 05-03-2006 08:54 PM

for the RPM's shooting up i'd think it'd be a sensor problem or computer problem..it's getting a false reading from a sensor, rev's to compensate?? i'm not sure... i'd find a nice Ford tech and ask him...

ya probably a sensor problem if the rpm's are up and down, i think we have talked about this problem before here....any way, maybe your IAC????? try cleaning that..good luck.

finally found out what it was. my third gear is completely gone so now its either time for a rebuild or a 5-speed swap.

UUUU... ya Ithink I know the problem Im not sure of a simple fix cuz my bro owns a probe GT and his tranny did the same and one day it stopped going into third and we found out that that gear cracked and he ended up getting a new tranny. so I would recomend taking it in cuz yes its probably the worst and easiest to get it fixed profesionally. I see u found the problem it was the same as my bro's its a pain but get a manual swap its worth it :thumb1:
