Pypes X-pipe problem!

Hey guys, this is my first post here so please bear with me.

I ordered my Pypes X-pipe with SLP Loudmouth II catbacks from American Muscle. As soon as I got em I couldn't wait to head over to my mechanic and bolt em on like their website claims. But like always nothing seemed to go right. He starts with installing the supplied downpipe to the manifolds. Doesn't tighten them all the way so he could adjust and angle them to fit into the "x pipe".

This is where the problem lies, the 2 ends of the downpipe just doesn't fit into the x pipe and believe it or not we spent 3 hrs trying to get that damn thing to connect. If you connect the left hand side one then the right doesn't fit and vice-versa. I talked with American Muscle and Pypes and they basically said they wouldnt take it back since I already tried to bolt em in. They said the only way they'll take it back is if I can take pictures and show them the problem and then they would decide if it has a defect or not. I just think that is wasting more time and money when I could just take it to a custom exhaust shop and they could probably bend the downpipes a bit so that they would fit.

Anyways what do you guys think and could you recommend any good exhaust shop that have experience with Mustangs.

Thanks in advance!
Jason

show us some pics of the issue.why doesn't it fit? wrong size or angle?hard to picture or give advice on something we can't see.if it is a simple issue of a slight bend go to the muffler shop and see if they can help you out. chances are they will want the whole car so they can see for them selves the issue and how much it needs bent.that's what i would want if it were my shop.maybe should of took it to a muffler shop to start with.i did my pypes kit in my driveway with no issues, including headers it took 3 hours.

Hey man, no help here, other than moral support - hope you get things worked out. It's pretty frustrating to order parts in and have problems, and tough to give a recommendation on shops when you don't live in T.O.

what a bunch of tards, how are you suppose to know its not gonna fit without bolting it up. Take a picture, send it to them and get them to send you another pipe. Be polite to make them feel like idiots.

Well,

First off I think I would have taken it to an exhaust shop...but I think we are a bit late for that. I would take a lot of measurements, a few pictures and take the x pipe to an exhaust place to get it bent to fit...or have it towed to a muffler shop...are you sure you have the correct end to the exhaust manifolds??

Here is a few comments on the product from those who purchased the PYPES X pipe on AM's website on the products web page for the 99 to 04 X pipe. Some of these comments are for the off road, and catted X pipes.
Sound=10 Quality of material=8 Fitment = 6 I recenlt purchased the pypes kit and i give it 3 stars because of the fitment . The cutting of the pypes was cake but when the install came nothing was close to lining up. I used a car lift which was very helpfull. The fitment was off by inches every which way. For a tip, a good ratchet strap can help pull things in place.(thats what i had to use). But other than fitment it was great but my opinion if you have the little extra money i would go with a little better brand.
I'm attempting to install the Catted X-Pipe in my 2000 GT. This is the worest fitting X-Pipe I have ever seen. The x-pipe to cat flange on the passenger's side is about 2-3" off (pointed towards the front tire). I've wrestled with this for over 4 hours. I finally got the down pipe, cats, and x-pipe connected (barely!). Now the line-up with the Cat-bac exhaust is off. I don't see how this is going to "seal". I'm guessing I'll have exhaust leaks all over the place. I've TRIED to contact Pypes tech-support, complete waste of time. I am totally dissatisfied with this product and their customer service. I will never purchase PYPES again. American Muscle has been great, they've been as helpful as they can be. The problem is not them, it is Pypes.
if you dont have a swivel socket or a lift it is extremely hard to put these on. had to bring mine to a shop to get them to fit right. and i still have leaks where the pipes fit together. i gave it 3 stars for the sound, 0 stars for fitment and quality. not gonna stop me from ordering fro AM though.
i had the exact problem as (joe june 03) i fought with pypes sending them pictures and measuring showing them it was not bent correctly (it caused my axle over to rub the axle), they said because it was used with a flowmaster cat back, well then its not a stock replacement... i dorve my car out to the pypes factory so they could see the issue had they instal it, showed them it didnt fit, they then said the air flow tubes are too long so they cut up my flowmaster catback... ughh now i can never put the stock h back in, the car sounds good. PYPES SUCKS! im saving to go with a probably bbk long tube header and system
I always check the reviews, and always take in the negatives over the positives. In my opinion, there could be one bad review, and that is enough for me not to get it.Just the way i am.
A few weeks back when i was looking to get a new catted X pipe to replace my MAC off road H pipe,i went threw all the reviews on AM site to compare the Bassani,PYPES,Magnaflow, and the SLP,then did a wide search on Catted X pipes on many mustang forums to get a feel what most had to say.Bassani came out to be the better one from everyone, well there was one issue for one person,he ended up having a MIL,for me that's nothing to worry about since my rear O2's are off anyways, but i knew that the fit on the foxbodies was A1 since i had installed one on my old 5.0L i use to have, but i wanted to know for the modular stangs, and i liked what i read.Sure enough,i installed my Bassani catted X pipe with nothing but jack stands, and hand tools. Was very pleased in every aspect.
Now for your issue.Take pic's,and send them to AM,a lot of the times they help their customers out.Keep yourself under control, and be nice, and let them see for themselves, they might help you out.But you need to remember this isn't there issue, they just sell the product, who knows though, they might offer something to help the issue,or solve the issue.Next step is PYPES themselves.PYPES seem to have a not so good rep on their customer service part,so good luck there.
Ooooor go to an exhaust shop, and have them custom fix it to work, which in my opinion would tic me off after shelling money out on something that should be a bolt on.
And welcome aboard.

True that man, if there's any advice I could give, 1LOW's got it right there. My wife works in the customer service industry and nothing will get you nowhere faster than being pissy with the person that can help you. Tough thing to do sometimes when you're tee'd up about parts that don't fit, but your not the first to have problems, from the look of the reviews. Cooler heads prevail, and good luck.

Glad I read this post. I was thinking of buying that same X pipe. Now i'm thinking I will just get the one from Ford Racing even though it'll cost around $1000.00.

Cheap parts doesn't mean good parts , good parts aren't cheap. sometimes it's worth it to pay the extra cash-ola.
