What tires do you have?

Just wondering, I will be getting new tires probably next spring, currently still got the stock perellis on now.

Thinking about either perellis again, but was also looking at the high performance toyos or going cheep and ordering the cheepies from AM, can't remember what they are called though, summitomo?

Anyway what u got and what did u pay?

fast Ed 07-11-2012 03:50 PM

Sumitomo HTR Z-III and Continental Extreme Contact DW are very good performers for a reasonable price. The Contis are much better in the wet, and a bit nicer ride, if those are considerations.

FRed-Cobra 07-11-2012 04:55 PM

Got Toyo T1-R, really good traction on wet and dry... A bit noisy

green pony 07-11-2012 05:20 PM

Just put Michelin HydroEdge on mine and am happy with the choice so far, at least I don`t get the flat spotting in the morning that I was getting with the stock Pirellis.

Red Pony 07-11-2012 06:41 PM

I got those Sumitomos HTR Z III from AM, they seem to be good tires, I've got no complaints. They're great if you want to do some incognito high acceleration take offs....very little noise when briefly spinning the tires and almost no black marks left for evidence. :D

HydoEdge are amazing tires, got those on my other car. Great for winter driving, you'll get tons of mileage out of them and the wear is nicely even.

def67 07-11-2012 07:12 PM

I have 35k on my perellis now? How many kliks did you guys get?

VAEM 07-11-2012 07:22 PM

I'm running Goodyear Eagle. I don't think I would do it again.

fast Ed 07-11-2012 07:47 PM

Which Eagle? They have about 10 different models of Eagle, that is a name that goes on pretty much all of the Goodyear performance tires. Some of them are quite good, others, not so much. The F1 GS-D3 works well, I had those on my T-Bird SC.

Mine are still good & stacked in the garage. I think they have somewhere around 18-20k. I just wanted different rims and of course since I was doing that I figured I'd get something wider for the back, so then I needed new tires. :D

Juztcuz 07-11-2012 09:35 PM

nitto`s here they are the upgrade at american muscle. My Mustang had Michelin pilots they would cry for traction but the nitto are very sticky I have had no compliants with them. nt 55 i think is the model and I would buy them agian I have drag raced and road course, street, with them and love em.

GT E UPP 07-12-2012 06:22 AM

Yep, the regular Nitto 555 tires are a good wearing street tire for your daily driver. The Nitto 555R street drag radials are softer, stickier and won't last as long. And, the R's can be a real Bit&% in the rain.

I had 100K on them, they were done.

def67 07-12-2012 07:53 AM

Wow green pony, maybe I won't need new tires after all next season.

green pony 07-12-2012 11:13 AM

That 100 k was without burn-outs and no smoke shows.

def67 07-12-2012 10:02 PM

I actually don't do a lot of burnouts and such, tires are too pricey, lol

agray56 07-13-2012 06:00 AM

My street tire is the BFG KDW. Great tire and awesome in the wet. Depending on what you want for the car, the Direzza Star Spec or the Nitto NT05 are very good street/performance tires.

Still rolling on my Goodyear F1's might try a set of nittos next time! Funny thing... it's cheaper for me to buy wheels and tires at American Muscle than 4 tires at 1010...

tbar 07-17-2012 06:05 PM

I saw a review of performance tires recently and the consences winner was the BFGoodrich g force T/A KDW. Pricey tires here in Canada but then most performance tire are expensive here.

DublDee 07-17-2012 08:58 PM

I may be trying the Dunlop SP Sport 01 when I replace the P Zero's. A friend of mine switched his Goodyear Eagle F1's to these Dunlops, and he said he was very impressed!

I had the F1's on my 07 GT500 and they were garbage. I am actually pretty happy with the Pirelli's on my 2013 but the wet traction isn't the greatest.

def67 07-22-2012 11:17 AM

Well after my oil change the dealer tells me I got 3/32nd left on the rears and 4/32 on the front with the tire gauges, so after this season or maybe sooner I'll be getting something. I'm not very good at telling how much wear is on a street tire like these, unlike my trucks mudders. So I guess I'll take their word for it.

I second that. My F1's are pretty much had it after 8,000 miles. They are also seriously bad on wet road...not that I drive on wet a lot of wet but sometimes you get caught. I'm thinking about a set of Cooper's next or maybe Nitto's.

FRed-Cobra 07-22-2012 03:11 PM

I have 2 Pirelli P7000 supersport 275/40r17 rear tires.... and my Toyo t1r were 100% better.

P7000 cry like little girl for nothing... perhapes they were free with my 2003 cobra wheels...

superdutyfan 07-23-2012 10:51 PM

We are running Michelin Pilot Supper Sport. still have the factory wheels and Pzeros with around 5000 km on them. The Michelins were well over 2400 in red deer but bought them off tire rack and just under 1800 delivered to my door. From what I read they were the best preformance tire that was all so good in wet conditions which I wanted a good tire against hydroplaning. check out the link.

I'm not going to mention any supplier names, but someone I know ordered tires online, and got an extremely good deal, but when he went to the local tire shop to have the tires installed onto his rims, they asked him if he was aware that the tires were expired! Yes that's right expired. I'm sure most of you know that tires do have a shelf life, even if they have never had a mile on them. I'm sure most of you know how to tell the expiry date on your tires, but just in case, here's a link to a site that tells a bit about decoding the expiry date on tires.

Tire Expiration Dates

Great info Dub.:tup

Red Pony 07-25-2012 08:02 PM

How to get someone to walk around in the evening shining a flashlight on the tires of all their cars in the driveway? Thanks DD.

So now I know the manufacture date of all my tires, except one. Seems that the HydroEdge tires on my Concorde don't have anything stamped in that rectangle. I have other Michelins on the Sierra and they have a number, so not sure what's up with the HydroEdge.

fast Ed 07-25-2012 10:22 PM

It's probably on the sidewall mounted to the inside. Generally the full DOT code with the date is only stamped on one side of the tire.

Tire Expiration Dates

Good info that many people don't know about. There are a ton of tires expired driving our roads and people have no idea.

X2. We sure learned LOT'S about tires during the Firestone recall a few years back.

Running Continental Extreme Contact DWS (don't believe the 'S' part but great tire in the rain Vancouver's second season) 255/45/18 on Enkei Falcons.

Expired 'New' tires. Who knew

fast Ed 07-26-2012 08:04 AM

And just to add, I wouldn't get too worked up about new "expired" tires. If they have been warehoused properly, out of the sunlight and kept at a reasonable temperature, they will be fine.

Heck, I've run on "expired" race tires on the track, and I'm still here to talk about it. :P

Ed

DublDee 07-26-2012 10:42 AM

^^ You're absolutely right, but if I'm spending 200-300 a tire, mine better not be expired, and realistically the tire shop shouldn't be selling them as well. But yeah your right, I doubt there would be any issues.

fast Ed 07-26-2012 12:44 PM

Exactly, if you're paying the money for premium tires, they should be fairly fresh production. I've seen on Tire Rack's site a few times looking at specific sizes of tires, they will show "200x" production or the like to indicate that the tires are older stock. Usually they are discounted too!

wannabesaleen281 07-28-2012 11:45 AM

Running nitto 555 265/35 up front and 285/35 in the rears on chrome saleen 18's. I just switched to the nitto's this year and I love them, there is no going back to anything else.

Apocalypse Pony 07-29-2012 07:31 AM

If expiry dates don't matter, why are they even there ? Got to be there for a reason I'm thinkin' , I'm sure they're good for quite a while when it comes to tires, so that stock must have been sitting around for some time. Better to sell them and get some use out of them instead of just scrapping them, and I'm sure they were OK, it's not like bread that's gone past it's expiry date. But, you'd think the seller would at least SAY they were outdated, but then I guess no one would be too keen on buying them, so good deal if they're discounted and sold as older stock up front. I can see both sides of the arguement from here.

OVERHEADCAMMER 07-30-2012 08:58 PM

nittos are great for the price.

i have a set of falkens 315/35/18 and they are terrible for traction,i do not recommend them

smithsj49 04-09-2013 07:32 PM

I have 27K on original Pirelli's. When I put my 11GT/CS away in November I was told I needed a new set of rear's. What are my option's?
