Over Revved! :(

Lol, feel stupid posting this, especially since I have an Auto, but once and I while I manually shift my gears, today I slammed the pedal in first got a crap load of wheel spin and I swear my Tach read about 7100 - 7500 RPM, before it finally slapped into second. I have been crapping my pants all day now. Do you think I screwed anything up?? I didn't hear anything but my friend was talking lots while I was driving after.

There is a rev limiter so you can't over rev. If you had hit the limiter you would know it.

ChadStang 03-17-2013 10:59 PM

I see you have a tune. I'm assuming they keep a limiter in the tune but I don't know that for sure.

xGHOSTx 03-17-2013 11:01 PM

I swear there was no limiter, cause it wasn't in drive I had it held in first and I never heard it rev so high it said 7400ish. I dunno how that happened, I mean I thought there was a limited too unless the tach was off but it sounded way above 6000 lol..

Ah hell you're likely fine....I used to rev my 2002 Gt to 7000rpm for shits and giggles.... Not often.... But more than a couple times cause I loved the exhaust note. Lol I generally kept a review limiter on it though

xGHOSTx 03-18-2013 12:56 AM

Well that does make me feel a little better lol! But I took her for a 20 minute drive and nothing seemed wrong so im sure it's all good! I'll just attempt not to do that again lol

I used to do that(either up or down) but stopped when I read that you can scrap your tranny.

Whitelion95GT 03-18-2013 04:42 PM

Mustangs are pretty tuff!! You'll be fine.

I would check with your tuner and verify the rev limiter. Regardless if your engine isn't in a pile on the ground underneath your car it should be fine.

X's 2 on double checking the rev limit in your tune. It's something i wouldn't do very often. If you only new how those followers or held in place under those cams covers, you would sh!t yourself LOL

tbar 03-18-2013 08:23 PM

With a tune they usually move the rev limiter up but you shouldn't have hit 7400. If there's no parts on the ground you should be ok.

xGHOSTx 03-18-2013 10:16 PM

Phewwww these posts make me feel better, it was running good today so im not too worried anymore about it. I'll check the rev limiter it seems to shift around 5800 - 6000 with the tune at WOT, I think the rev limiter must have cut the gas when I hit 7K and up I just probably didn't know. It didn't bounce but no parts on the ground lol! So Pheeww!

Don't feel bad those of us with 2005 and up Mustangs have to make sure the traction control switch is off before we manually shift gears in an automatic.

The stock valve springs may not like that kind of reving. Especially if you're going to put that big cam in futur mods.
