Custom Tuning Options for Cold Air + Throttle Body

Hi All,

I recently bought a 2010 GT and am looking at pumping up the performance.
Why not right?
My current plan is to buy the Steeda ProFlow Cold Air & the Ford Racing Throttle Body.
Steeda 'ProFlow' Cold Air Kit 555-3152 - Steeda.ca
Ford Racing Throttle Body (Billet) M-9926-3V - Steeda.ca

Both require a tune and I'm really not familiar with the best way to approach that.
Steeda.ca offers a custom tune file with their components + their location is reasonably convenient for me but they only offer the SCT X3 tuner.

I was looking around and there is a SCT X4 with pre-loaded tunes that (supposedly) adds 17HP and 30 Torque to stock applications based on the SCT site.

So here are my questions:
Are those numbers legit?
Would those tunes still be usable with these components added?
Has anyone found additional component wear or danger from using a tune?

Any help you guys can provide is appreciated!

I'd skip the throttle body, from what I've read they don't help any without a supercharger or header upgrade.
Also the 10'gt's have a real cold air intake from the factory that flows just as good as a cold air, although from what I've read the steeda does flow the best out of them all, so there may be some gains to be had there.
Pre loaded tunes are not as good as the custom tunes that steeda writes.

Thx Def!
Yeah the Steeda site lists a 20-25Hp gain across the full RPM range after the custom tune, which is supposedly based on real Dyno Testing.
As the part# & item description are unique to the 2010 model it is presented as a true gain over the stock components.

I spoke with the Service Tech there and he was confident that the throttle body would be good for another 15Hp sans headers or super but who knows? for an $800 part he might talk it up all day...

Good advice for the custom tunes, based on that I'll probably stick with the SCT X3 that they carry.
Now I just need an insurer that doesn't throw a hissy fit when you install after-market performance parts!

Don't tell insurance, what they don't know won't hurt them.

I agree but if the unspeakable should occur & they find something like that installed during an inspection then I would be essentially paying 100% out of pocket as if I had zero insurance.
Risks & Returns...

Hey! Cold air intakes are mostly for looks, sounds, and slight gain so don't expect anything magical but everything helps! When you pair it with a custom loaded tune on the SCT X3 you will notice quiet a difference in throttle response, and acceleration, and if you have an Automatic hands down best mod out there as they will alter the shift points and how hard it shifts so you will actually break the tires loose switching gears! As for a throttle body, again like Def stated a much larger throttle body will not net huge gains without the use of say a supercharger, you might only make use of a few more HP with it as an addon. If its 800$ you can get a lot more gains from a good set of Longtube headers, paired with free flowing exhaust!

Also I don't know what you can and cannot do if you have warranty, but hands down best mod people can do for acceleration for there Mustangs is swapping the gear ratio to something numerically higher, such as 3:73 for a manual or 4:10's for an auto. Gears, tuner and intake and your car would be a whole new animal!

Thx Ghost!

OK guys so I'm saying yes to the Steeda Cold Air + tune and no to the Throttle Body.

I like the header upgrade suggestion but I just don't know enough to pick from the long list of options on sites like Steeda & CJ Pony...
From what I've learned the long are better for my non-supercharged setup but I wouldn't know where to begin with brands.
I should probably dig in the discussion thread as I'm sure the ceramic vs chrome debate must have come up more than once!

This may seem a little weird to some, but I would prefer to keep my exhaust volume around the stock level. Nothing against anyone who goes the other way but this is my preference. To me the stock growl is plenty good and still lets me sneak up on ppl B4 tearing it up
There are too many civics in Southern Ontario that are full volume going around the drive-through for me to really enjoy a loud exhaust.

So would I have drawbacks to upgrading the headers + a shorty mid and stopping there?
I did see the Cervini Side Exhaust kit that looked sick visually but again probably a much noisier ride experience.

FYI - My new wheels shipped on Monday! Assuming no drama @ the border I will have them by mid next week
