Noise through Triax Shifter ?
 

Has anyone done anything to reduce the noise coming through their Triax shifter?

Also gets very hot on longer trips.

I was thinking of putting the old shaft back on with the isolator, but it needs to be lowered a bit.

Turn the stereo up! j/k

Remeber the big azz rubber isolators in the stock shifter? They kept the vibration and the noise down to a min. What you could do is get some very very thin rubber washers, thinner than the ones used for garden hoses (get my point) and install them between the shifter handle and what the shifter handle is bolted to. Should not even have to take out the shifter, just unsnap and pull the boot over and should be right their. Give it a try. It is all just metal on metal contact. (i know you know this) I know a few that have got sick of the noise and put their stock handle back on with the rubber and it works. Not as sloppy as stock. Sorta like a middle aged prostitute. lol Peace.

You will get more noise with any shifter...it is just accepted with aftermarket shifters.

I knew about the noise before installing it, I'm not knocking the shifter so please do not take it that way. :)

I heard they all do that like you say.

I'll try the original shaft with the rubber. Just need to shorten it a bit.

Not the greatest solution, not even the same stock handle used. Becareful. Look at the pics and the angle the modified shifter neck is on. Not even close to being the stock shifter handle. All they mention is taking the threads down to lower the shift knob. No where does it say to modify the angle of the shifter. You can see tha they may have heated it and bent it. Try ramming that into gear a few times, snap!

Seriously, use some rubber washers and all will be fine. You did not mention in your post that you did not like the height or the reach. If that is what you are going for look into another shift handle. Peace.

The shifter handle does look like the original one I have (factory one)

The first pic is the stock one that ours look like. The second pic is the modified one that is not what ours looks like at the top. And of course the third is the triax.

No, the Ford dealer that did my TSB on the tranny told me about that. He took mine out and said that the shifter was one of the quietest that he had heard in a while. Pro 5.0. He mentioned about rubber washer for sound damping if ever I get the tranny/road noise issues.

It made sense what he said as the stock shifter is full of rubber in all places. If you even took the rubber out of the stock shifter a persons car would shifter a lot better and not be as mushy feeling. Take care

rubber gromet= nice noise reduction, but anyhoo it comes with the territory of a new shifter, deal with it is the only advice i have. :cheers:
