i've got the engine out of my 86 gt for rebuild and am wondering what cam to use. i've got cobra intake, 1.7 rr's and gt40x heads. and yes, the pistons will be fly-cut - or simply replaced - to work with the new heads. assume drivability is less of a concern than performance. so what cam do i wanna put in there? any suggestions/info you guys can provide is much appreciated.

...forgot to add...

on the FRPP site they say that "on EFI vehicles, performance cams only work with mass air". is this so? as my car's speed density, is there anything i can/should be doing re the cam, or just leave the stock one in. i've heard from some that the stock cam in my 86 is a pretty good one as is, so wonder if i'm barking up the wrong tree here. thanks guys

If you dont want to convert it to mass air, just leave the stocker in there. With the 1.7's on there it will work great, and it will keep the power in the lower RPM's. The bottle neck is the stock heads and intake, not the cam.

The stock cam will work great and make good power, with excellent low end torque production. If you want a mean cam that will work with SD, look into the Crower 15510. It is my favourite SD camshaft, and works very well with mild induction setups like the one you have described. Just make sure you upgrade the valve springs on your heads to match the cam.

put a e-cam in it, with sd cars you can run a cam up to 224 duration, with no problems. if you are flycutting the pistons, you will have no problems, and a e-cam will wake up your motor!!!!!
