Hi guys. I like to pick your collective knowledge about deleting my egr. I've got the upper intake off at the moment waiting for a polished one to arrive. Just what does deleting the egr do for me ? Do I have to do anything other than putting a plate on the throttle body spacer and plugging off the vacuum line ? BTW, this is on a basically stock 92 foxbody 5.0.

Deleting the EGR does nothing to your stang at all, no gains to be had if that is what your looking for.

Don't block it off!!
The EGR valve helps your car run more efficiently and completely burn fuel by recirculating a portion of your exhaust and running it through the combustion process again. This results is a cooler, more complete burn of the fuel which decreases you car's noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of some harmful gases.
•EGR Valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.
•Rough idle and poor acceleration can be caused by a faulty EGR valve.

 

Thanks for the info. It begs the question, why do people do it ? Serious drag/racing motors maybe ? I saw an egr delete plate for sale, which actually is what made me ask the question in the first place.

 

I am no expert but I think the EGR only opens at light throttle operation, it is fully closed at wide open throttle (WOT) so that is probably why they are removed from race cars as it would serve no purpose for them.

 

that and you wont pass emissions wothout it. Its work a few HP but not worth taking off.

 

Thanks for that info,Speedtospare. It certainly appears to be not only a waste of time, but even a little detrimental to performance. Emmisions aren't a problem here, no testing here. I'm not sure it would pass anyway, as I have the cats off it.
