I feel your pain waiting for summer to arrive....I bought my '13 convertible a month ago and got it home from the dealer 3 days before the winter weather set in!

I have talked to a couple of mechanic and they say the fuel stablizer are a waste of money as they do not really do anything that will protect your engine or the gas in the tank when it goes through the system.
My owners manual says when in extended storage to start it up a couple times a month. I usually start it up 3 times a month, let the engine coolant temp and the engine oil warm up to normal, drive it back a forth a few feet in the garage a few times and park it in a slightly different spot. I do not rev the engine. I also turn the heat on for a few minutes, run the A/C for a minute just to keep everthing moving so nothing starts to seize up from non use or sitting in one spot too long. This usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes of running the car. I think this will also help burn off the old gas a bit for a fresh tank come spring since most station put addiitives in their gas for winter that you don't need or want in the warmer weather.

I disagree on the fuel stabalizer. Fuel starts to go bad in a matter of a few months.

I myself, always run fuel stabilizer as well. ChadStang - why does Ford continue to write in their owners manuals to start your car repetedly over the winter if in storage? It's not good for it at all.

I think starting or not starting is really an opinion and there are valid arguments for both. I used to start periodically and I found that my exhaust really starting to stink (rotten egg smell) which to me meant my cat converters had suffered some damage but they were aftermarket so who knows. Ford probably looks at it from a warranty stand point and if the vehicle runs more often there will be less chance of seals drying out and batteries going dead. If there were "bad effects" from starting it they would probably be long term issues when warranty is long gone.

The way I look at it is as long as the oil is changed before it's parked and after you pull it out of storage no engine damage should occur from condensation so worst case scenario a few years down the road you have an excuse to put an aftermarket mid pipe in because your converters failed. Keep in mind too that these cars all sit on dealer lots or previous owners which may not have the most ideal storage methods and it's very rare that you hear of any issues.
