1low03gt's new heart progress build.....

38 Attachment(s)
Thought i would get this up, and going since i know have the new heart, and started to tear down the old one.
Current '03 4.6L with roughly 63,000 kilometers, which is just a baby, has taken the turn for the worst as most of you know.
Missed 3rd, while powershifting at 6400rpm, and obviously i ended up floating the valves in wich left one valvespring popping, and five followers letting go, and also spit number one sparkplug.
Carnage pics....

Well i got most of the long block stripped down now, and did find that i did bend the one valve that lost the spring, so i could imagine what the number 7 piston looks like right now LOL!

Here is how she sits so far....

As for the new heart, thanks to glp67. Met him on another board where someone was looking for a 4.6L 2V in which he responded too, so i saw the post, and sent him a private message to get the details on this engine, and told him was very interrested!
It is a 2004 model with a birth date of 12/12/03, and was in a police cruise that had a very short life, 67,000 kilometers short life.In short, Greg knew the officer that had the cruiser, and picked the engine up for himself, but decided he no longer needs it.
So basically, this engine is a perfect fit for me as the year, and k's are perfect. This 4.6 will have the updated heads that have more sparkplug threads, and the k's are almost in line with my GT's k's.

Anyways, the pics will tell the story on how clean this thing is.

Then the past few weeks, and this weekend i have been cleanning, and refinishing some of the hardware like the cam covers, Bullitt intake, and timing chain cover, ects.....
What the cam covers, and Bullitt intake use to look like....

They were all black....

Now for the new look....

https://www.cmoc.ca/attachment.php?a...ine=1334022858

And cause i like the look of those Ford Racing blue cam covers for the 3V, and the 4V 4.6L's, and Ford Racing has done nothing for the 2V's, i decided to take the matters in my own hands LOL!....

and for the timing chain cover, as you see what it looked like before with the above pics, this is what it looks like now....

And waiting to come in by mid week, or weeks end is....

Comp Cams Valve Springs Beehive

I'll hopefully have more pics this weekend. Hoping to have the cams, and springs put in the new heart.

SNAKEBITE 04-09-2012 10:30 PM

Looking Great...I really like the blue cam covers..:tup

SNAKEBITE 04-10-2012 03:57 PM

I have not asked, will this setup give you more power?

Red Pony 04-10-2012 06:53 PM

Impressive! Keep the story going.

1low03gt 04-10-2012 07:16 PM

Thanks guys. I'm telling you, it's not easy trying to fit this in with family life right now LOL! Hard to be motivated when i have time, or it sucks when i am motivated, but can't do anything!!!:banghead:

Oh, and that is my brother standing with the engine, but it was cool out.

As for extra hp, not really, should be about the same give or take a few ponies. This build up will be the exact replica of my original 4.6L, but waaaayyyyy cleaner visually when i am done.
If i keep my stock short block, there will be another build thread in the feature,...... something of a 5.0L strocker build for my original 4.6. :D

2000roush 04-10-2012 09:22 PM

well its time to get motivated. lol. nice weather will be here soon.

1low03gt 04-10-2012 09:26 PM

I'm trying LOL!!:banghead::D

2000roush 04-10-2012 09:28 PM

yeah i hear ya. mine aint done yet either.:banghead:

1low03gt 04-12-2012 06:44 PM

Well the new Comp Cams valve springs cam in, so this weekend the cams, and springs are going in!!!:tup
Now to get on the phone to order up a rear main seal, and exhaust manifold gaskets. :?

SNAKEBITE 04-14-2012 12:44 AM

how much longer until finished?

1low03gt 04-15-2012 06:58 PM

Well, a little update. Some bad, and some good.
The donor 4.6L is not going in, but the heads are, everything else i am selling off.
The good.....
Pulled my heads off my 4.6, and she is still good to go. :tup
Thank you Lord!!! This will safe huge time for me!
The bad.....
Reason i pulled my heads off of mine is that the donor had a little suprise..... seems like it might have hydrolocked on it's final day as there was water in the intake, intake ports, and cylinders, and also had one bent rod from seizing up. For what i paid for it, i am okey with it, and again cause for what i paid it for, pays for the heads in all reality.

So as for the build, gonna order some head gaskets, and head bolts, and clean the exhaust ports a bit on the new donor heads, can't believe how ruff Ford left them LOL.
Then next saturday gonna re assemble the new donor heads, and hopefully slap them on my short block. Then hopefully the following weekend have the cams in, and have it all timed up so i can button it back up together.

I guess i should've pulled my heads of first....... could've saved some extra cash, and went for the trick flow heads for the 2V LOL, and next time i look at purchasing an engine, i will make sure it rotates, and not go by how clean it looks, or on how many k's it has LOL!
It does show that it's a low miliaged engine inside and out minus being filled with water from being sucked in from the intkae, just had an unfortunate ending!

Ronnie06GT 04-15-2012 08:06 PM

It looks like things are working out...even with a few little bobs and weaves. Glad to hear you're not out a lot of $s.

1low03gt 04-15-2012 08:18 PM

Yeah, not to bad over all. Very lucky really. I am pretty happy though that i don't really need to pull the engine out, that saves huge time for me. It actually got me really motivated :tup.
But i do tell you this, i really had to motivate myself yesterday to jack my low a$$ stang up, and then motivate myself some more to crawl under it to pull the Bassani X pipe off. Luckily my exhaust comes out with simple hand tools still to this day for being a 2003 model..... thanks to e testing every other year, i swap back to the stock mid pipe, so that obviously helps out a lot by keeping those nuts, and bolts from seizing up on me. LMAO!
And i am glad i didn't pay the average price on what a full 4.6 2V usually goes for. I would not be a happy camper right now if that was the case!
I will be still good considering.
I will be selling of most of everything i don't need. The block with related stuff is already spoken for, now i need to unload the stock PI intake, and stock PI cams LOL

VAEM 04-15-2012 08:32 PM

Awesome stuff 1LOW ... Any chance you'll make it to the track this year?

1low03gt 04-16-2012 07:54 PM

Yeah, i will be there, but no racy stuff for awhile. I'll be glad just to have it on the road again in running condition, not the CAA condition LOL!

VAEM 04-19-2012 08:45 PM

^^^ I hear ya!

SNAKEBITE 04-20-2012 04:52 PM

I guess there's always a surprise when rebuilding, goes with the territory

1low03gt 04-21-2012 01:25 PM

These past week i cleanned up the heads, and polished up the exhaust ports. Was hoping to assemble them this weekend, but too buisy, so that will happen next weekend.

digger56 04-21-2012 03:02 PM

looks great!! wish I was able to do that kind of work myself....

SNAKEBITE 04-21-2012 04:12 PM

Hey Jay, this made me think of a famous quote from a pretty well know guy, it goes like this..."If you ain't breaking stuff, you ain't driving it right" - Carrol Shelby. :D

SNAKEBITE 04-24-2012 05:44 PM

^^^I will never be accused of that as I drive it like my gramps drove tehehe

You are right my friend LOL!!!

So another update....
Ordered this kit when i came home tonight from work....

CYLINDER HEAD CHANGING KIT - 2V
M-6067-D46**

https://www.cmoc.ca/attachment.php?a...ine=1335401062

It is cheaper to order this Ford Racig kit then it is to go to the dealership and order a set of head gaskets that are sold individually, and headbolts which from Ford are sold individually aswell..... which was wracking the price around 300 bucks at a discounted price!!!! :banghead:
You can get this Ford Racing kit for less then half of that!! And that is shipped LOL!

VAEM 04-26-2012 06:24 PM

^^^ Now thats good to know! Kinda crazy when you think about it.

1low03gt 04-26-2012 07:47 PM

Crazy isn't it.
Funny thing is that it's probably the exact same stuff too!!

SNAKEBITE 04-26-2012 10:51 PM
