AmericanMuscle - Questionable for Canadians

Hey all,

Hopefully it's alright to do this as my first post, but I'd just like to give a heads up to any Canadians that are buying from American Muscle.

I bought Ford Racing Cams from AM and was sent completely the wrong part. Once my item was received, the item itself was not in stock so I couldn't get another set shipped out to correct the problem. What I was told is that I could get a full credit back and re-order them when they do come in stock.

This is all fine and dandy, EXCEPT you do not get shipping and duty back from the original order. So for AM's mistake of sending you the wrong part, you pay the shipping and duty.

The only option not to have to pay twice for shipping and duty is to place a back-order (which I was not given the option of) and then they will cover it. I was only given the option of getting credit back since it was not in stock. So now I am out $100.

I understand that it is built into their policies that they do not pay for return shipping. But the fact that I was given no option to place a back-order basically forced me into now paying for their mistake.

Word of advice to fellow Canadians thinking about buying from AM, stick to Canadian suppliers. If you do however, make sure you ask for a replacement on back-order if what you received is wrong and currently not in stock.

Can't speak for anyone else, but yah, to me anyway, signing up and posting a complaint about a deal gone bad is not a great way to start on a forum. Makes it look like you only signed up to post your beef. As far as your post goes, too bad it shook out the way it did, but part of your beef is with Canada Customs and not American Muscle. You pay duty to the government of Canada for importing something from the States and not buying in Canada, same goes for goods going the other way. The government doesn't care if you got the wrong part, they got theirs , and it's not AM's fault you paid duty to import the stuff and had to send the stuff back. I'm sure the government has some form available that can get you a refund on the duty if you can prove you sent the parts back to the seller. Much like a lot of other things that involve trying to get money back from the government, well, good luck with that. lol Bring another part in and you'll pay again. You didn't go into detail why you weren't given the option of placing a back order, so I can't speak to that. Whats the difference between being given the option for credit and re-order when they do come in stock, versus back order ? Sounds like the same thing to me. We have no idea what sort of exchange you had with AM, so it's only one side of the story, but you know what? It's never a bad idea to support Canadian business, I'll agree with you there, welcome to CMOC, my opinion does not speak for anyone else on here, just me. lol

I agree, it's not the greatest topic to post for the first one, but I was just annoyed and didn't want others to go through the same.

Basically there are two options if you get the wrong part as I understand it. 1) Money back (not including the shipping and duty), 2) replacement item without charge.

The problem occurs when they didn't have the item in stock in order to send me a replacement. So, AM said they could only give me money back and then wait for the part to come back in stock. I requested to have an one put aside for me so I wouldn't be out of luck with it going out of stock, but they couldn't do that. I only had the one option of just receiving my money back.

Possibly I was dealing with a new guy who did not inform me that I had to option to back-order the item and wait for it to come in to get a replacement, (which I thought is essentially the same thing as putting one aside for me which I asked about).

And now that my "Order" has been completed, a.k.a. that they have received back the wrong part they gave me and refunded just the cost of the part, they said I'm SOL for trying to go the previous route of enlisting for a back-order which I would have done if I knew I could.

Gah.

I also promise I'll stick around though haha, I've been looking for a canadian forum for mustangs.

american muscle( cheapest combined shipping/duty/taxes to my area of the country) and the mustang shop in calgary are the main ones I deal with.never had an issue with AM.I've even dealt with BAMA tuning back and forth a few times and they are great to deal with.
americanmuscle can notify you when a b/o part is in stock.example below
KONI STR.T Front Mustang Strut 8750-1027 (94-04 All) - Free Shipping
I waited till these were back in stock and ordered them.

I also use the Mustang Shop in Calgary, There pricing is as good or better than ordering from the state once you add up extra cost of shipping across the border. I do have the luxury of picking up my parts from them, as i'm only 20 min away from there shop.

Yeah I have used both the Calgary guys and AM, and I won't be spending another dime with AM.

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that if they send you the wrong part and they make a mistake, you are expected to pay for the shipping, not them. That's just atrocious. I don't know if that's standard with other suppliers, but its shut my wallet for good with them.

So as for not paying for your return shipment not to many canadian courier companies or freight companies will handle collect shipments to the states. You could try UPS but they might demand to get am ups account number to make sure the charges will be collected. If you don't get that plus a return authorization number you have to concerned that am will refuse it as well so then it would come back to you with all those costs plus shipping costs so now your digging a deeper hole and maybe just maybe getting really pissed.People have to be aware that taxes, duties and other fees are still due at time of delivery.Be careful on websites read them top to bottom and really read international shipping policies.I'm a courier that subs for UPS and I can't tell you how many times I've been cursed out I've had someone take a swing at me because of these CODS.Cj pony parts advertises free shipping but I don't think they pay your gst brokerage etc. It's unfortunate in your case with what happened but every time we order from the states it's not as good of a deal as you think and you are not supporting your fellow canadian.Look at it this way for every $10 you spend at a business here they are spending $25 its a fact

Spent a ton of money at A.M. and gotta say very happy. Never had them send a substitute part and they always advised me when parts not available.Have ordered with option to wait for part and then they notify and bill me when part has been shipped.Returned two items that I didn't like and ya had to pay return shipping but never an issue with refund. It's a risk you take but savings are amazing. Shop carefully.
