Best mods for 13 Mustang GT
 
Hey everyone. Im looking to make a bit more power in my new 2013 Mustang GT with Brembo brakes and 19" tires and summer stock rubber (not the track pack). Current mods are GT500 mufflers from a 2011 (thanks to TRACREDY), a k&n drop in filter, and a SCT hand held tuner with 93 octane from uprproducts... the car puts out some pretty nice power as is and the tuner really woke her up for throttle response. Looking for some others mods to put the power to the pavement better for 1/4 mile drag times. Whats going to be my best bet so I dont void any warranties or easy to take off mods for when I bring it in for service? Thanks for all the input.

I should add I dont really want to spend a fortune.. maybe a couple hundred dollars at a time.. my buddy keeps telling me to get bigger street tires or drag radials and that itll make a huge difference but ive seen posts of some people pulling off low 12s with the same mods I have with just street tires and excellent launches.

Get a JLT CAI and a better tune, you will see a big difference.

Take some weight out too if you want mid to low 12's and yes a tire for sure.

K im no expert my any means.. and no disrespect but when you say a better tune do you mean a dyno tune or another hand held tuner? Because I was told the SCT x3 was one of the best.. also I was told a CAI compared to the stock intake with a k&n drop in is bad for the 2013 because of hood vents and that a cai would only add 2-3hp over the k&n. And for $300-400 the cai really isnt worth it..

With the tune you likely already voided your warranty and even a intake can make the warranty boys give you the gears.

You could look at the boss intake, that may get you a little more go.

There doesn't seem to be much for gains from bolt ons but what is your ultimate goal? Fast street car, drag racing, road course ? Maybe some suspension or visual upgrades might make you happier.

Ultimately id like to have a very fast street car that holds the road really well and the occasional drag racer a few times a year.

Ive been reverting back to stock tune every time I take the car for service without any problems - keeping fingers crossed but I dont think they can tell a tune was put on when I go back to stock. Not 100% positive though.

Boss intake looks nice and should add some high end at the cost of low end. But even if this is Ford installed would it void warranty on the engine im wondering?

They can tell that the computer was reset.

keep the SCT x3 yes, but there are better tunes files out there than whatever came with the handheld. They can also be updated to match your ongoing mods.

The only thing for stock intakes is if you need a stock size (for example boss 302 owners with a red track key) is they use the AIR RAID intake instead because it has a reducer to stock size inlet.

the JLT carbon fibre also takes about 8lbs of weight out of the car too.

The intake and tune combo is worth if you have the right one. But to each their own. You're passing on 2-3 hp but you are worried about the effectiveness of the hood vents? :?

Yes, 2011+ you can't hide anything, they will know whatever you've done. Still didn't stop me from modding though.

The tuner I have came with lifetime tunes from UPR so that should be fine for whenever I add new mods. I was told by the guy who does the dyno tunes at UPR that a cold air intake vs just a k&n drop in filter in the 13 GT isnt worth the money due to only gaining a few HP with the cold air. Also he noted that when it rains with an open top cold air intake that the filter will get wet from the hood vents and reduce air intake (not that ill be racing in the rain but who knows it may stay wet for awhile even after the roads dry up).
