you can just tap it into a fuse that works while the car is on. Im going to be tapping my gauge lights to the cluster fuse. I think its alot easier to trace a short if it ever happens this way and no hacking involved

I decided to tap in behind the cluster. I already have the cluster out so it'll take me about 5 minutes. Behind the cluster there's wires for 12v ignition and the lights for dimming

yeah that too. Im avoiding doing that just so its easier incase i ever have to get back to it all i do is take out the a pillar or cluster (cluster gauges) and I also have to meet the lights from the a pillar to the cluster gauges which will be just above the fuse box anyways

I have mine all ready. I wish my car was home right now so I can take sometime to install the pods

I found a good how to on the gauge lighting install if you dont want to do it the fuse way.

K, mines a 2000 GT and I assume the guage clusters and what not are the same. First thing ya need to do is remove the guage cluster. Once you have it free from the 4 torx screws there is two female connectors (wire harnesses) on the back. Take those off and pull the cluster completely out. On the right hand harness there will be a pink.black wire. This can be your 12v key power source. Only active with the key turned in the on position. Splice into that for your guages for the 12v. Now with the lighting, ground both the black wires to whatever you want, I did mine to the dead pedal bolt under the steering column. The white wires for the lighting source will have to be spliced into the headlight **** switch. If you unbolt it you can pull it out a bit and look on the back bottom corner for a blue wire. Splice into this for your lightning which will allow you to dim the lights, turn em on off so they are not always on. Good thing, to keep the guages new and always working.

Here are some pics of the wiring/harness I hade for the lights of my gauges -

A pillar -






you can see the bulbs where the pods go, connected and shrink tubed the wires, also used some double sided 3M tape to hold the wires behinde the a pillar and cluster pods so they dont go all over the place. I attached the + and ground from one bulb to the other bulb to the next light, then gonna connect the + and ground from the cluster/a pillar together with the ground from the voltmeter. Im going to attach the voltmeter + to an ignition fuse and + from the autometer gauges to the cluster lights. That way I have
1 - 12v source to the ignition fuse or wire for the voltmeter power
1 - 12v source to the cluster fuse or wire for power to the lights
1 - one ground for them all under the dash

If you install the gauges correctly, you won't have to get to them again

6 screws to get the cluster out is a pretty easy task if need be
