Dealership oil changes

Anyone had it done and if so how much $$$$. Last year in early May I spent 112.00 for syn 5W-50 at Metro Ford. I am curious to see how much of a price increase for an oil change year over year:chacha:

carspark 04-17-2011 10:58 AM

well i havent had to get an oil change but i get free oil changes at my dealer for my car :)

ChadStang 04-17-2011 11:15 AM

I haven't priced out the oil yet but I don't imagine it will have changed much in price. I'm not sure in the city's but here the dealers have the cheapest oil changes and we do a full inspection and top off the washer fluid with it as well. We lose money on oil changes but hope to retain our customers and possibly sell additional service that may be needed. The big rip offs are the "fast lube" type places. Some of them charge for everything down to each fitting they grease.

112 dollars.....damn!! I do it myself,much cheaper.:tup

I go to my dealship. My price is $45 for 5w20, but I get a preferred rate (I think regular rate is around $70) because I've been buyin' stang verts there for last 30 years.

I would not let the fast lube joints touch a valve stem on my car. Hey 1Low I like dealer paper on any service for the Snake for piece of mind:chacha:

That's understandable :tup, you like to keep records on your rides as you don't plan to keep long term.
I plan to keep long term,so records don't bother me.Plus to the fact i change my oil at every 2500 to 3000 k's no matter how much i drive it,and that would get pretty expensive over time.

The specified Motorcraft 5W50 synthetic oil for the GT-500 and Ford GT lists at about $11 per litre, and the car takes about 6.2L, and the filter is about $8. So that puts you around $85 for parts on that car. A standard GT can use mineral based oil, and only needs 5.7L, making the oil change much cheaper.

cheers

I'll be doing my own as well, bought the filter from Ford for $8 and got 2 x 6 bottle cases of Castrol 5W20 synthetic from Costco for $40 a case.

3rd oil change coming up with 2700 k's:chacha:

So why use synthetics then. With synthetic oil,you can go longer between oil changes. If your gonna do that many in that short of a period of time your just throwing money away!?:?

herbz 04-18-2011 08:01 PM

I believe Ford specifies for newer Stangs every 8,000 or 10,000km (Can't Remember) or at least one a year which ever is first. The GT/CS has 14k on it and its only had 1 oil change, it'll get its second once it comes out of hibernation this year. That's probably why Snakebite has had 3 oil changes in 2700km's.

5w50 synthetic is the required oil on the GT500

Everything 2008 and newer is 8000 km or 6 months whichever comes first.

That's fine, but i was more less commenting on the amount of times the oil has been changed for the amount of usage/k's (2700 k's like he stated) with the full synthethic.
For some it would because of hard driving on some sort of race track, which i understand why they would change it more often, but for someone that just cruises, and drives casually, why spend, and change the oil that frequently.
Don't get me wrong Snake, just wondering, not poking fun.

In his case it would be the time between oil changes more so than mileage. It is required every 6 months or 8,000 km whichever comes first. I was told this is because oil becomes acidic over time and can pit the bearings. I always used to change my oil every 3 months on my 2000 GT. I had it 3 years and 11,000 km. It would have seen 12 oil changes when I sold it. Oil was cheap and I changed it myself. On my GT500 I feel ok doing it every 6 months but the oil isn't cheap any more. Still a small price to pay to keep an engine in good shape in my opinion.

^^^thanks and what he said lol
