You should check the mesh and blacklash, it is not as simple as just installing.

Here are some sites

I will bet the thread started due to an improper gear installation. I am sure he believes in his installers 'talents' however too many people including myself have installed the newer gears to reaffirming there is nothing wrong with them.

If the gears were indeed bad (a manufacture defect) then it should have been caught during installation. If it was a bad set of gears (a material defect) and they wore improperly then when it was torn apart there should be proof of this.

It sounds like the backlash was only checked in one spot on the ring gear. The min. you should ever check it is in 3 spots around the ring gear and better yet is 4 in a cross pattern. Acceptable run-out is usually around +/- .002" and most gear sets I have installed have less then .001".

Generally if the backlash is within spec, the pinion is pre-loaded properly and the gear pattern is right for your application then more then likely you will be just fine. The harder you will be on the gear set (i.e.: drag racing) the more precise the install must be.
