Has anyone cut a fuel pump access door in their trunk for a 94-98? Instead of dropping the tank which is a royal pain in the *** we're just going to cut a hole. Just need to know where exactly to make the incision.

pretty confident it would be in your spare tire compartment

IMO...you'll need to drop the tank to get an idea of exactly where to make the cut

don't go cutting your trunk floor with the tank in there...you could catch a fuel line running at the top of the tank

with the frequency you'll likely be accessing the fuel pump (not very often)...may as well just drop the tank and bolt her back up

Yeah, I understand the risks involved but this is the route that we will be taking.

Why would you want to butcher your car like that?I mean how many times you plan on changing your pump......Biweekly?

cutting the trunk will expose Bare metal and will eventually rust. I would'nt recommend doing it. but it's your car

I already have two rust holes in my trunk, an access door done PROPERLY that will be resealed will not rust. Those two managed to get there without any cutting. The edges will be treated and painted. Nobody will ever see it unless they tear everything out of the trunk. Don't worry, I'm not a butcher, I know what I'm doing. I just need a location so I know where to cut. If you have ever dropped a tank you'll know it's worth it, even for that one time. But in the chance I need to change the pump out again, there will be easy access.

not sure this will work for you.

my tank has been taken out 3 times

1) for a high flow pump when the blower went in
2) to swap tanks to the Cobra set up with dual pumps and add a sweet tank cover
3) to plumb an upgraded fuel system from rails to tank with SS lines

I was there watching surgery #2....and I'm not positve that you can remove the appropriate plumbing from the top side of the tank to swap pumps by working through what would effectively be a fairly small "hatch"

just a thought dude...I'd hate to see you start cutting and having to drop the tank anyway

It only takes like an hour to do a Mustang fuel pump/tank, I've done it many times, try doing a Chevy, those are hard.
