Idle and storage questions?

2 questions guys! why would my 2003 idle rough on start up but not afterword's?

Second question, if I am bringing my 2016 out of storage soon does it need an oil and filter after sitting for 4 1/2 months if I did one just before storing it? First time storing so not sure. Thanks for any help guys

Not sure on the idle, dirty throttle body?
As for the oil, I would and do not change before or after storage. Just when the mileage says its time. More is a waste of oil IMHO.

How long does it idle rough? Just on cold start?

I'd change the oil. Too me it's worth it when an oil change is really about the cost of a tank of gas, cheap insurance. I've always been told that the oil becomes acidic as it sits. Do you start the car perodically while it's stored? If so that ends to build up a bunch of condensation in the oil that you'll want to get out of there.

Not just on cold start but not every start???

I don't start the 2016 while in storage, battery is out! I guess I will do an oil change but certainly wont do one next year before putting it away if it is suggested to do one when coming out!

Thanks!

Ah yes, the ol' "change the oil before or after storage" debate......lots of points to either way of doing things, the only right way is the way you're comfortable with maintaining your car.

Two schools of thought.....leave the oil in for the winter and it acidic because its used, and picks up moisture by not regularly running at operating temperature.

Change the oil before storage and it picks up moisture anyway, but maybe less acidity to worry about.

See what I mean ? Classic damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. Personally, my comfort zone is to change the oil prior to storage, ( I was due on mileage anyway), use full synthetic, and drive normally when spring arrives.

I'd be more concerned about the tank of gas thats been sitting for six months (in my case), even with stabilizer, all the more reason to drive, drive, DRIVE !!! lol (Its been a long 5 months for me, still got a month or less to go)

Thanks Apocalypse Pony, I think for the minimal cost and piece of mind I will just have it done when I bring it out and everyone is preaching the use of synthetic so I will switch to that!
I wasn't even going to mention the gas but was certainly thinking it wont run great for the first tank! I just got a new tune and am going to run 91 octane so the quicker I can burn of that first tank the better!

Well you've got me on the rough running. I'd start with a tune up. As far as the oil change goes, if you don't want to do it both times definitely change it before vs after storage. I just prefer too do both.

I to am one of those that do the oil change before, and after, just a piece of mine in having fresh oil while sitting, and fresh oil to start the new season off after sitting with cold/hot climate changes threw the winter.
Rough idle could be due to sitting for a while. Does it do it everytime you first start it?
