Oil advice - I need your thoughts.
On my other vehicles I use Mobile 1 5W20 oil.
I see on my baby V6 it Ford says to use 5W30 oil.
I'm wondering about using the same Mobile 1 5W20 as I use in everything else in it.
Thoughts...????? Please.

I'm interested in how others think on this subject... I too am different.
People usually want the best for their vehicle but in reality they are looking after it for the next owner not themself. People rarely keep a vehicle longer than 5 years at most.
I have used Mobile 1 5W20 in all of my vehicles (since Mobile 1 came on the market) and I change the oil every 10,000 kms and I don't give a hoot what the manual says. I have never, EVER had any problem with any engine in any vehicle I've ever had.... and I've had many.
I've read all about the fuel economy vs wear publications and in some ways they re valid but in other ways they're not. They're simply an opinion, and in my own experience not supported, but that's just me.
In addition to fuel economy you can gain a tiny bit of extra HP by simply changing the oil to full synthetic and reducing the viscosity used. Dyno tests show a 10 to 12 HP increase. Not enough you'd feel much.
So, a tiny bit of HP gain, a tiny bit of fuel economy gain and MAYBE reduced engine life. The jury is still out on this... but do I care if I only keep the vehicle for 5 years??

No.. I haven't made up my mind as I may keep this car much longer than 5 years. It may be the last "toy" I get to own so I need to look after it. Thus my question on what others think. I'm simply saying what I have done previously. That's not an indication of the future.

I changed the oil for the first time 1 month ago on the snake and the odo has 1300 kms. By next Apr when I change it again the odo will have moved approx 700 kms to a total of 2000k's. For me with the limited k's I change it once per year and I'm comfortable with this.

Just remember it is not the oil that breaks down but the additives within the oil. So I run Mob 1 syn 5/20 and change the oil at 5000 km whether it needs it or not. Maybe over kill but I am a firm believer in the tried and true. I think though the real question is can/should he run 5/20 in a car that recommends 5/30.
