Same weight, and it is a different story. Both the 4.6 Modular Overhead Cam Design and the 5.0 Pushrod Motor Design have benefits, and followers.
I actually love both!

I actually tune as many 5.0's as I do 4.6's now.

do the 4.6's respond better to a tune?

I do not do a ton of stock vehicles, or most are mail order but the majority of stock vehicles pickup about 10whp and similar torque. Every car is different.
A pre 94 5.0 will make more power with a tune than a 94-94 will.
A 2005+ will make more power than a 96-04 will.
On average, about the same. If you want differences of 1hp, I would say the mod motors make more with a tune.

5.0 vs 4.6
Ya the 5.0 are a bit lighter and the 4.6 has a better flowing head,so it better make more power.
The 5.0 has a limit of 550-600 HP at the crank (block Limits)
The 4.6 has rods and piston that are (limited to 425-450 RWHP)
So there are very simular.
Now spend money on them and say BYE BYE to the 4.6
even with aftermarket parts, forged crank and H-beam rods etc, etc. The design of the 4.6 engine limits it to 900-1000 HP depending on block.
Yes I know guys have made more and ALL those guys have a Basket full of parts. Not to mention that a Crazy 4.6 will cost more than any 5.0
yes we can bring up the 4V and again it has heads that flow MUCH MUCH better than a E7 casting.
The 4V shortblock is still limited to HP due to it design.
The heads can and will flow well into the 300++++cfm but well cost your first born..........................ASK Cushman at VT
Last but not least, where are all the fast 4.6s (without a blower)
A 5.0 with heads and cam will run 11s
it can be done with a 4.6 for double the $$$$
But they will ALWAYS be limited to HP due to DESIGN.
