Tracking the history of a 68 Mustang

2 Attachment(s)
Hello Everyone;

I just became the proud owner of a 1968 Mustang. While she is not a trailer queen she is a solid car. It was restored 12 years ago and I am trying to trace the history of the car. The car has changed hands twice since the restoration.

At this point all I know is that the person how bought the car from the person who restored it lives in Calgary and has the last name Macintosh.

If anybody can help me, give pointers etc. on how to trace the history it would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a picture:

Boy, these ones are always tough, try running the VIN at your local licence office. Last time this happened, Fitzy was looking for Don Edwards in London, and trust me, it all went bad, so...welcome welcome and good luck with the search.

Welcome to cmoc! Good luck with the search!

I have tried that however due to the Freedom of Information Act they will not give it to me. They will just tell me where it was registered but no names.

Welcome to CMOC. I know you're out west, but you could try Service Ontario and see what happens. For $20.00 it could be worth the shot. You won't know if you don't try.

Good looking Mustang.

You could try talking to Matt or Bruce at the Mustang Shop, They might know the car.
Maybe when it was restored they bought the parts there.
Or you could try some of the members from the Alberta Mustang Auto Club to see if someone remembers the car.

Hope to see you out at Grey Eagle next summer on Wednesday nights, love to see the car up close.
Come say hi, if you see my car. My Plate say "OUTRGUS"

Thanks for the tips. Your car is a beauty. I wanted the fastback however as this is my first vintage car I wanted something less expensive and something my daughter and I could tinker with over the winter.

Do you have a Marti Report for your car, if not something to look into.

Thanks for all of the tips. Hopefully will come up with something.

So far I have been able to track the car's history to 1991.

Registered in Calgary October 20, 2015 (that is me)
Calgary, Alberta August 18, 2015
Cochrane, Alberta June 13, 2013
Calgary, Alberta July 29, 2004
Medicine Hat, Alberta September 13, 1991

I cannot get vehicle reports from other provinces if I do not hold a valid drivers license for that province.

Any body else have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Find someone in whatever province you need info from to run the numbers?

Thought about that but at this point I am playing the game of Pick a Province - Any Province......:?

Maybe it's time to spend a few more $ and do as Outrgus said above. You can also use: CARFAX™ - Vehicle History Reports and Used Car Listings or https://www.carproof.com/home If you want the information bad enough, you should be willing to pay for it. It can only help you with upping the value of the car by having the history for it. I have all the history on my car, I did pay for it and happy I did. That way I can show it to the next owner, if I ever decide to sell. Paying for the past can only help you with the future. Think of it as just part of the cost of owning the piece of history that you own.

Sorry if I gave the impression that I did not want to spend money to learn the history. I am more than willing to pay the money. I found that when I went to order a report on Carfax or Carproof they would not accept the 11 digit Serial Number and indicated they only went back to like 1981 or5 something. I will have another look, maybe I missed something.

Autonut 11-02-2015 08:56 PM

There's nothing to be sorry for. That's the problem with text. It doesn't show or let the person receiving the text know how the person sending it is expressing it. Just trying to help. All is well. :tup

Just ordered the Marti report. Just went for the deluxe version not the elite.

Marti Report

I received the Marti report today and I am super stoked :wiggle:. Turns out the car was built in San Jose and delivered to Metro Ford right here in Calgary. It was built on January 31, 1968 and released for delivery on February 01, 1968. It was sold here in Calgary on May 27, 1968. It is 1 of 6,147 cars with the same Paint and Trim Codes.

I have been in touch with the General Manager at Metro Ford and he is going to see if he can find out anything.

The title search I pulled on the car says it was first registered in Alberta in 1991 so I am not sure if that is just as far back as they could go or if the car may have been sold to someone living in another province.

The search continues but is narrowing.

Have a great evening everybody!

Autonut 11-07-2015 06:05 AM

That's great news. :tup Keep us updated.

Congrats on getting the report from Marti, it's nice to know the history of a classic.
The 68 is my fave old Mustang, here is a picture of mine. It has a 331 stroker motor in front of an AOD transmission plus loads of other mods.
