Hey, I'm actually just looking for an exhaust system myself for my 05 mustang gt. I'm really wanting something a little louder and more noticable then the stock tuned pipes, however I'm not wanting something loud and obnoxious.

I want the bark to go with my cars bite.. so when u guys are talking about the borla system. your talking about "Borla Stainless Steel Cat-Back™ System 2005+ Mustang" and not the header system correct?

And do you think that borla or the flowmaster system would be that deep rumble sound without that ketchup can type obnoxious noice from some others ive heard.

SLP Loudmouth 2 System Is ON!
I have no regrets!
Put my MAC intake system on several hours later...Made it just a touch louder as well...
Sounds similar to magnaflow, only better in my opinion as it has a bit more of a performance sound past 3000 RPM...
MPG went up slightly, and the difference is night and day with exhaust/intake...really opened it up off the line and right through the RPM range...
Getting a lot of compliments on the system!
No one in my area has SLP...
I am also, (in the spring) going to get the SLP LM1 resonators and try them out too, just to see what they sound like as this system is modular and it takes just minutes to change...
Also, I love the tips with SLP, very nice!!!
SLP LM2!!!

Give SLP a look!
I am not a FLOWMASTER man
Just too common and played out
Borla is excellent (catback), I went SLP as it was half the price!..Couldnt be happier with the LM2...It fits your looking for description exactly!
Great quality, installed in 30 minutes and its modular!
Check it out on Y/T for clips, but it will sound even better in your own driveway!

I knew it would work out for you.

I have always liked the LM2. Borla is right up there too but the tips on the SLP are just awesome.
I don't know if you will like the LM1 mufflers as they are just nasty but SLP just put out a new power flow muffler that is supposed to sound deadly as well.

The tips on my new Ford Racing axle back are identical to the SLP tips which is why I went with it (and I got it way cheaper than the SLP unit for my car).

By the way.....I have a brand new SLP LM2 system still brand new in the box if any one is interested.
I sold my 2004 GT that they were going on so it is no good to the 2007 and have to sell it.

X OR H Pipe

OK!
So, I have my SLP LM 2 system
NEXT
Now, this is an area I know nothing about
X Pipe's & H Pipe's
People say, depending on the catback, or depending on if you want torque or hp gains, is what you need...
All I know is that mine has to be catted
What are some opinions on this X and H pipe business?!
Thanks Guys!

Personally, I say stick with a high flow catted H for sound. It will retain the low muscle car growl.

A catted X is supposed to net you 3 more HP but you will never feel that and the sound while still decent is at a high raspier pitch.

Here are a couple with a catted X

Here is an off road X

Here is an off road H

I can't find any clips of the SLP lm2's with an aftermarket catted H but it will sound very close to stock but a tad louder as you will have 2 high flow cats versus 6 on the stock H and the sound won't be muffled as much. It will definitely wake it up.

If you go X I'd say go for the SLP.
For an H, BBK, MAC & Magnaflow are decent choices.

Good Luck

Exclamation What Next?

So I have the SLP LM2 system and the MAC intake
I am looking to put 1 more toy on it before storing it for the winter
Should I go with the 70mm throttle body, pulleys or MAC H pipe
Also a question, when buying a 70mm throttle body, should I get the Plenum too?...
And what are some opinions on the Hurst short throw shifter?..

You will get some HP/TQ from pullies.

Next to nothing from the TB even with a plenum (with a supercharger you will gain more though but with a 75mm ideally).
The TB/plenum should give you a much better throttle response so it's not a totally useless mod without FI but some are much more $$$ than others.

I had a Roush short shifter in my 04. It was made by Hurst but with ROUSH engraved into the base.
It was a good shifter. Stiff at first but got nicer as it got more and more use.
No problems at all.

MGW is the one everyone says is the best but I didn't regret getting this one.

One thing though......when I installed it I used a Cobra Bob gasket instead of RTV.
Got all kinds of vibration and noise in 5th and it was annoying.
I took it off and used RTV and it was as quiet as stock.
