New best in 1/4 at Sparta on Saturday

Went out Saturday to test and tune at Sparta and ran back to back 12.8's at 106. Best I could get at Sparta last year were 13.2's. I had broke into the 12's last year but not at Sparta.

here are the numbers. Killer 60fts for an unprepped track, I can't wait to get to another sticky track or on a Sunday at Sparta with the new set up and weight reduction. I am hoping for 1.6's from the Hoosier Drag Radials.

No 1/8th times as a sled took the markers out.

60ft:1.724
330ft:5.267
1/4 ET:12.827
1/4 MPH:106.06

60ft:1.718
330ft:5.262
1/4 ET:12.834
1/4 MPH:106.12

Shift light is on its way form Summit as I think the differances are where I am shifting first and possibly third. Hopefully the light will at least keep me at the same rpm. Just got to figure out which that is. lol I did order the MSD light that has 4 shift points that I can select.

It was really good to get back out on the 1/4 mile and giverrrr. I had fun for sure.

Damn, nice job. I think I know what I'm doing next time. :tup

That's all with no engine modifications (not counting CAI), pretty impressive.

What rims are you using for the hoosiers?

What size for the skinnies? Thinking about brake clearance issue with the larger calipers.

I used a 1 inch eibach spacer for the fronts.
Fronts are 15 x 4
I am close to swapping a guy for his gt brake and my Mach brakes. That way I would not have to run a spacer. That is my plan. the mach comes with 13 1/2 Brembo brakes from the factory so he would be getting better deal but the dela suits me as his brakes will work fine and unless I was doing cirlce track I really do not think I could tell the differance. Win win for the two fo us. Still deciding though.

You couldn't pay me to put GT brakes on my Cobra. On my V6 I went from the V6 brakes to the Cobra ones and it made a world of difference. Not sure how close the GT ones are to the V6 but I wouldn't do it, especially since it's my daily driver.

Did you have to get longer studs when running the spacer or were the stock ones fine?

Like I mentioned it was a thought and I am not completely sure. The eibach spacer comes with studs in it. :tup Steeda sells them on their site.

Just giving you some insight :tup

If I had to list the best mod I did on the V6, it was the Cobra brake upgrade.

Thanks for the info, I'm hoping to run better than 14.06 next time I go.. although I was stock with drag radials that wouldn't hook.

I appreciate that very much and did realize what you were saying. Thanks :tup
The whole brake thing is that I go straight and yes I need to stop. That is the main thing. lol

good luck next time out and make sure you pop over to the red MAch with the centerline convos and say hi. I'd appreciate that.

Very true, we will see once it gets closer.

congrats...
friend of mine from JCO dropped 2 tenths of his best time there on saturday, he's happy, almost breaking into 14's with almost bone stock cav and DR's

Just curious, what's the difference between the 96-98 Cobras and the Mach 1 that makes the Mach 1 almost a second faster? As far as I know, they have the same power, Mach 1 is slightly heavier, gear ratios are 3.27 and 3.55 which isn't that much of a difference 1/4 mile time wise... Is it the suspension? The shaker hood giving some more high end power?

I was trying to figure this out all last night.

higher compression, sub frame connectors, differant heads, differant exhaust, Differant cams. To name a few. I am sure somewhere that 5 years of technology has done somethig for the computer side of the car also. These are just my thoughts on what my car has when it came stock.

Here is a quote about the Mach from the mag Mustang Monthly.

"Some people assume that the Mach 1's four-valve engine is identical to the DOHC 4.6 used in the '01 Cobra. True and false. Basically, it's the same engine, except for the Mach 1, Team Mustang enhanced the performance with high-flow four-valve heads, higher compression, new cams (from the 5.4 Navigator, reportedly with the same lift as the '01 Cobra cams but with different overlap and duration), revised calibrations, and improved exhaust manifolds that are also port-matched to the heads. The result is, well, actually less advertised horsepower than the '01 Cobra--305 to 320--something that may be attributed to the Cobra's marketing status as the top-of-the-line performance Mustang."

Yeah I saw the different heads/cams, etc and kept seeing that it had the same power right around the same points. So it's basically underrated.

I guess I have a bit of catching up to do still. Once I get paid for an $800 job I did over 6 months ago I should be able to get a few goodies. At this rate I don't think I'll ever pay the car off though...

I suppose I can go until winter and stop modding it while it's in storage and then pay it off then.
