NEW GEARS 3:55 or 3:73

3.73's in a 4.6 mustang is....
Been there,and disliked it,to tell you the truth,didn't even notice the gear change from 3.27 to 3.73,lasted a year with 3.73's,then went to 4.10's,and never looked backed.When you think about it,it really isn't much of a jump in gears like the old 5.0 stangs which had 2.73's or 3.08's,then going to 3.73 really wakes them up,but the 4.6 lacks in torque,doesn't start making any til around 3000 or so rpm.In my opininon,if someone wants to do 3.73's in a n/a 4.6 equipped stang,just leave the stockers in there.Save your money.
I have said this once,and i will say it again,anyone giving you advise on gears for your "MODULAR" stang,and have had no expirience with them on a day to day basis,they are wasting there breath.Old school pushrod engines,and the modular over head cam engines have nothing in comparisson to each other when it comes to rpm,hp,and torque.
If you plan on getting the stang blown,yeah,i can see why the 3.73's will be more appropriate.
But if you plan on staying n/a,and want your moneys worth out of a gear swap,and laybour,go with 4.10's minumum.
Do a search on the web,especially modular stang specific web sites,98.5 percent will say 4.10's for a daily driven stang.The other percentage are usually blown.
I'm no expert,but i've done both 5.0,and 4.6.
3.73's in a 5.0L is perfect for everyday usage,and 4.10 in a 4.6 stang is perfect for everyday usage.
There should be a sticky on this chart i will post up again that i read in a old mustang 'zine......
5.0L to 4.6L
3.55 = 3.73
3.73 = 4.10
4.10 = 4.30
And stick with Ford Racing for the gears.

What is your RPM crusing in 5th?
Hows the MPG?
How is 1st with the 4:10's?
#18
When in 5th at 120 kph,she rev's at 2500 rpm(+ or -,depending on the tach's accurassy).
First gear is short at quick accelaration,but under normal driving,feels pretty normal,but shorter then with the stock 3.27's obviously.
The fifth gear still feels like an overdrive with the 4.10's as the fifth gear ratio in the tremec 3650 is .62,no ***** so to speak as you would still need to drop to 4th when wanting to do a quick pass around someone on the highway.
