I actually don't mind the whine so much.

got the tuner out and reclaibrated my 4.10's + added the Bama tune
she's got some get up and go now for sure!

did a 50 mile run over to my daughter's place and back...got some vibration going on...at 60 mph. need to take a ride without the wife to see if it goes away at higher speed.

I assume there is some sort of "break in period" for the gear set...any suggestiions? around town, she's a rocket.

I wouldn't worry too much about break in. If you've driven it 50 miles you should be ok.

I'll second that.
Re the vibration. It was probably always there, but raising the driveshaft speed at a given mph (by changing to 4.10) has brought the vehicle speed at which it occurs down to a more used level. When I changed to 3.73s, I noticed the same thing at around 65-70 plus. I fixed the issue by swapping to a one piece aluminum driveshaft. The stock one is a poor design, and quite heavy.

Yes I did in fact have minor vibrations last year (before any mods) at around 60-65 mph

what do you reccomend for the aluminum shaft?
mine is an 2006 auto trans 4.0 V6
with 4.10 rear end 7.5" diff
I might as well change it out now.
any particular brand you suggest?

I went with a Shaftmasters 4" driveshaft. Their product and customer service are top notch, and the price is better than most (still gonna be about $400, though). If you are lowered, or plan to be (over about 1 1/2"), the 3.5" shaft may be a better option for more clearance.

no plans to lower.
I have been in contact with Shaftmaster guy this morning.

I also see one from Steeda but quite pricey in comparison ($699 Canadian)

did you also put a "safety loop" on?

roddy 08-01-2011 01:05 PM

I didn't add a 'loop, but I should... always a good idea, and not much money.

X2 on the loop. It is a safety item and if you ever need it you'll be glad you've got it.

ordered 4" aluminum shaftmaster
safety loop from an outfit called BMR
http://www.bmrsuspension.com/

kinda odd the driveshaft guys don't sell loops??

also, decided to also add strut brace underhood..one from AM

get that all on, I think I'll be done...for this year LOL

thunderbolt 08-09-2011 07:02 PM

Friday Aug 12 is changeover day for the aluminum driveshaft + safety loop
Then, test drive!

Oh ,and Ford called today...FINALLY got the stuff they need to fix my passenger side floor water problem...Geessh! does anybody keep anything in stock anymore?
been waiting like 8 weeks for this

thunderbolt 08-14-2011 10:01 AM

shaft installed...ccol...quicker power to the wheels and much less vibration

Issue with the darn loop though...damn thing is rubbing on the shaft...had it adjusted 2x after install and still rubs..sometimes.

any suggestons on the loop? seems too tight and doesn't allow for any drivehsaft travel.
what are you guys using??

the one i got is from BMR
I'm thinking 1 of 3 options:
- remove loop and take my chances
- find a bigger loop somewhere
- have a machine shop custom make one that allows more clearance
