2000 Mustang for sale...

Hey all,

I would like your opinion on this car. First off I am in Canada, so these are Canadian Prices. I have found a 2000 Ford Mustang for sale and I was wondering if he is asking too much and how much should I offer.

2000 Mustang, Black
Standard
power windows, power locks, little stuff like that ( No Cruise Control though..)
90,000 kms
The body of the mustang looks great... no rust.

The dealer is asking $11,000

too much?
what should I offer?

2000BLKGT 07-19-2005 12:14 PM

Not a bad price IMO...another member just scored a 2000GT with about 40,000kms for a for around the same money...and he figured that he stole it.

morg933 07-19-2005 12:17 PM

I am pretty sure it isn't a GT thou,
I checked it over and I didn't see the GT written anywhere...
I noticed it was an anversary one thou.

Ya thats a really good price.... but I am still conviced that $11,000 is way to much for a regular mustang 2000 especially with 90k kms..

99 was the anniversary year.

sorry...I thought it was a GT

OhYes05 07-19-2005 12:30 PM

If its a GT its not a bad price, if not, I would offer him 8 and see what he says.

morg933 07-19-2005 12:32 PM

thanks alot for all your input,

Once I secure my job I will go in and offer 8k.

2000BLKGT 07-19-2005 12:44 PM

Here's the way I would look at it:

1) brand new, the V6 was about 70% of the price of the GT
2) you can get a nice condition GT for 11k
3) 70% of 11k is $7700

Offer $7700

Great deal if it's a GT / clean.

morg933 07-19-2005 02:33 PM

The last time I looked at the Mustang I noticed only:

- it had either the
A) 25TH ANNIVERSARY DASH PONY EMBLEM
B) PLAIN DASH PONY EMBLEM
(Pictures of emblems here: http://www.johnsmustang.com/Catalog/2208/ )

- GT wasn't written anywhere on the car.

So its definatly not a GT and it may or may not be the 25th anniversary edition. So 8,000 is still a good offer then?

Also I have another question, I am a student and money is going to be tight at the begining... I even plan on using credit to buy the stang and storing it for the winter until its paid off and I have some money to put into it :D

Anyways what I was tryin to get at was are there any tweaks that I can do to the engine so I get better fuel consumption? The car will be standard so I image that makes things alot easier as opposed to it being auto.

Also from all of your experience what is the first thing I should do to the engine? I plan on customizing it under the hood and the interior. I am just going to leave the outside black and have black rims.

OhYes05 07-19-2005 03:16 PM

I assume you know the difference between a 6 and a GT. Just because it doesnt have badging, doesnt mean its not a GT.
Pop the hood

morg933 07-19-2005 03:19 PM

Sorry but if I understand correctly it still might be a GT if it doesn't have the GT badging?

If so that would be great, I would offer 10k instead of 8 :D, get alot better of a car for 2,000 more...

Sorry but I am not too car smart, I am more of an computer guy. I would be more then happy to answer any of those questions, seeing as you guys are helpin me out alot :D

SNAKEBITE 07-19-2005 03:57 PM

:tup This one is easy. If the dealer is asking 11k for a 2000 is is NOT a GT. Good luck though. Oh an easier way to tell 1 exhaust tip most likely a 6, 2 exhaust tips it is most likely a Gt.

White97 07-19-2005 04:11 PM

Pop the hood and check it out

Count the number of pipes on the headers.. 3 on one side = V6, 4 = V8.

morg933 07-19-2005 04:19 PM

Thanks alot, I will check out the exaust and see if there is 2 or just 1. That is a sure way to tell if its a GT or not correct? If I looked under the hood I might not even find the cyclinders.... lol I prolly could thou, just don't wanna look like a retard infront of the salesmen.

I don't know if you guys seen my other questions but I will re post them. If I am not making any sense please let me know. I have alot of free time on my hands and TOO much time to think about this stuff lol....

Have a camera? Take pictures of it and the engine bay and post them and we'll be able to tell you for sure if it's a 6 or 8.

If it's used and a 6, sometimes people put dual exhaust on them so that's not always a way to be 100% sure...

morg933 07-19-2005 07:18 PM

alright I will try and get it done. I imagin that if it only has 1 pipe then it is a Base. Where I am located there isn't alot of young kids with cars let alone customizing them.

I will talk to the salesmen as well get his opinion, I will throw out 8,000 as well for it, see what he says.

In your experience or anyone elses is there anything I can do to the engine to get better fuel performance or is that just not happening at all?

Roadkiller 07-19-2005 07:55 PM

Nothing that will make a "significant" difference. The EPA ratings are almost "perfect world" numbers as they are, you likely won't achieve them on a regular basis. All you can really do is ensure the car has a proper tune up: new plugs (depending on mileage), fresh oil, proper alignment and proper air presures.

The easiest way to get the best gas milage is to take it easy on the throttle. That may be easier to do with a V6 than a GT :)

morg933 07-19-2005 08:06 PM

I got yet another question, sorry I have loads of time on my hands...

When a mustang reaches like 200 kms a good way to bring it back is to put a new engine in it correct? assuming everything else is in working order.
I was wondering how much this would generally cost, motor + labour. just an estimate would be good. Also I imagin at that time I would have options to upgrade the engine.... like drop a GT engine in or something.

What do you think of that?

morg933 07-22-2005 04:06 PM

ok I just finished looking at the mustang and I got some new information...

I seen that it was labled "2000 Ford Mustang Sport"
Also I seen on the spec sheet that it has 6 cylinders.
I had also noticed it had only 1 exhaust pipe.

Is this still worth the $11,400 price tag on it? or is it more worth around the 8,000 range?

SNAKEBITE 07-22-2005 08:07 PM

Nope. Go to VMR Canada and fill in the info. Looks like 9700.00 would be fair assuming the thing has under 90,000 kms and is not a bucket. Jesus with 200,000 kms I would offer 5700.00 NO MORE :tup As far as fuel mileage I find the best way to increase the life of a tank of petro is do what I do, DON'T DRIVE IT. A tank lasts me 4 months = 1 1/2 tanks for the summer :tup
