I read many articles and controversy on rustproofing/undercoating many say do many say don't, any idea if I should get the new 2015 mustang, had it for 6 months now, probably keeping it for 5 years, what info can I get on this would be greatly appreciated, I live in Barrie Ontario, thanks all

 

I can't imagine anyone saying don't undercoat or rustproof, seriously, and if "they" say don't do it, they're un-informed, un-educated morons. If you're driving in Canada, its cheap insurance against rust and salt damage, or at least minimize it. You spent all that cash on a '15, do yourself a favour and get it Krowned, Rust Check'd or oil sprayed, Just my $.02.

It's not real common over here in Alberta, but in your neck of the woods I'd be rust proofing for sure.

 

It's funny you say that because my dealer sprayed mine without even asking me. They said they do all the cars they get, but then my F150 isn't sprayed and neither was my f250. They didn't charge me for it so I'm cool with it.

 

Yeah a lot of dealers get the undercoating sprayed at the rail yard before the vehicles are delivered to the dealer. I'm not a big fan of it as they do a messy job and miss lot's, but if you didn't have to pay for it that's a bonus.

When getting your new ride krowned do you allow them to drill holes or just spray where they can without drilling The drilling kind of scares me
I have my truck done but that seems different

 

When I had my gt done, it didn't bother me that they drilled a few holes. It's not like they are an eye soar. Looks factory to me with the plugs they used. Besides, I rather a few extra holes for proper protection against rust.
I could never understand why it bothers most people anyways, on a high percentage, most trade up for a new model every few years anyways. I'm that small percentage that still has his stang from new lol.

 

Drilling doesn't hurt a bit, gets coverage on the areas that need it the most. Mostly comes down to personal preference, not happy with drilling, don't do it, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

 

I think that thick black tar undercoating on an old car is a no-no, it covers up too much but on a new one?...dunno. I know my 91 had it new probably and it saved it and flaked off nicely by the time I got to it @ 15yrs later.


Theres that honey/wax undercoating too which is kinda neat.


I used to work at a dealer n the 80's and did a few cars...it was not a good process, literally told to hose off underside of car and then while wet I kid you not spray black tar on with aerosol tins.
