I checked the search and posts were from 2012. Anyone know what verdict is for ethanol blended fuel for the 5.0? I hear either no problem good - more octane rating or bad don't use. I know ethanol can be corrosive (sucks in water). Are the stock fuel systems in the late model mustangs with the 5.0 ok with ethanol blends? I don't recall seeing any warning in the manual. I wonder if there is less detonation at high power - like the old aero engines that used water methanol injection at high power settings?

Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, is made from wheat and/or corn by converting the carbohydrate (starch) portion of grain into sugar. A fermentation process is used to convert sugar into ethanol.

I dont know but it looks like the big gas companies want to make gasoline out of nothing to improve their bottom line.As far as Iam concerned they are ALL scum! BTW I'd rather pay for higher grade gas than to use ethanol!

 

I'm pretty sure all gas in Canada is 10% ethanol

 

I've heard that more ethanol meens more power, but at the same time less milage.

.according to bama tuning -they have there tunes on the slightly richer side at cruise because of ethanol.usually 14.7ish-15.ish afr they shoot for 14.1 ish.with my 93 5.0 the cruise afr is around 14.2..........

"The stoichiometric point has been changed to 14.079 from 14.64, and that's a stock Ford value. Most of the Mustangs up until now have been 14.64, at least until 2011. There were a few that were 14.34, like some 96-04 Mustangs. This year, Ford lowered the value to 14.079 to take into consideration E10. We have been changing the stoich point to 14.3-14.4 for a few years on the 3v's. It's something we were trying to work towards the future on, but luckily - Ford did this for us with the 2011's.

Basically, the stoich value of 14.64 doesn't exist anymore on the road, at least in the US. Pretty much everywhere you go there's going to be at least 10% ethanol, as most states have been federally regulated on individual timelines/target dates for quite a few years. It's definitely something to keep in mind, moving forward."

While doing a little digging, the Feds mandate a certain amount of ethanol in Canadian gas. If I remember correctly it is supposed to average 5% for all gas sold. A lot of stations have 10% in regular and 0% in premium with mid grade running at about 5% by being mixed in the pump. or so I read.

I also read about big problems in US with storing the vehicles with ethanol in the gas - phase separation. I think it is then important to use a fuel stabilizer (now more than ever) for winter storage.

Wish I could get Chevron gas in Sask. I never ever had an issue with their fuel and a couple of tanks cleaned up some engines - think there additive is good.

 

The only real problem is when you store your vehicle for the winter that yes ethanol acts like antifreeze so to speak but it really does attract water.One thing you might do before you store your car is maybe just run 3 or 4 tankfuls of just plain ole gas with no ethanol then fill the tank right up add stabilizer and call it a day.One question since I haven't looked yet do these car have a metal gas tank or a plastic tank because apparently that could make a difference hen you are running ethanol loaded gas
