2.3L Gears

Hi,
I have a 2.3L 1990 Mustang LX. Can anyone tell me what the stock gears are in the rear end; and what would be a good replacement to get more performance without sacrificing to much fuel economy?

Do you have an auto or stick?

johnny5 12-16-2008 07:25 PM

Sorry, its auto

For some reason I want to say 3.73.... But I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks,
what gears would you put in the back, that won't kill your fuel effecieny?

The 2.3 doesn't really rev that high, so I wouldn't go much higher than 4.10s, and maybe a trac-loc while you're in the rear end.

Should be either 3.45 or 3.73. If you get the axle code off the VIN sticker on the driver's door, you can tell from that ... post it up here and I will check the parts catalogue, or just Google it. :)

what part of the VIN will tell me what the stock gears are?

Thanks

The VIN digits won't tell you, there isn't a code as part of it like the engine. But on that info label on the driver's door, there are a bunch of codes on the bottom line. The axle code should be over to the right side.

Yes there is a stick on the drivers door or door jam at the very bottom there will be 2 letters AX = Axle, under it will be like a Z or some letter.

Have a look at this page I think it might come in handy for you. You can decode your VIN and find out what gears you have by looking at the fallowing.

Hope this helps.
