It goes both ways, For what its worth, I have been shopping around town the last couple of days and they aren't too far off tire rack without me even telling them tire rack prices.
Also you have to remember shipping cost's and the local shops are going to charge you to install said tire rack tires.

on a side note, anyone running yokohama's?

I think my perelli's are on there last legs, 46000k on em so that's pretty good I'd say. The good prices that I've got in town so far are only from the Ford dealer which is a bit of a surprise for me.
I'm a little pissed at the one shop since I've bought probably around 20 sets of truck tires for anywhere from 800 to 1400 bucks in the last 15 years for my work truck's plus 2 sets of focus tires for 500+ bucks in the last 6 years and they won't give me a deal as far as I can tell.
That's over 20 g's in rubber over 15 years, which granted isn't what a bussiness might spend but I've been pretty loyal to them, I don't think a couple hundred bucks off on a set of stang tires would hurt them for the loyalty I've shown them.

Your right 200 bucks is nothing, like you I buy my cube van tires here as well and one break I get is I don't get nailed for balancing or installation,it not much but it helps.I don't know if it makes a difference is that my tire shop is a big o tire but it's family owned but a couple of younger guys,I've had nails pulled and patches at odd times and they have never made my wait, sometimes it's the little things that add up something the stores in the us can't do they are just price driven not so much face to face customer service. And yes def67 it looks like I'm going to to yokohama w drive it's not the cheapest out there but that's the best deal the shop can get for me.

Tire Rack has given ok pricing to me; on Nitto INVOs around 1200 for all 4 and a local shop did the install for 100.00. Since the earthquake in Japan the price of all tires has jumped. My first set of invos (2009)were under 800 for the 4. I am getting just a little over 20,000 miles out of a set of tires, although the last rears went out early (a day on a runway will do that)
Looking for bigger rubber for the back of the 13 cheapest I can find for 335/30/20 is over 500 us each.

Got to pay to play.

I ordered some Yoko's from my local shop today, they beat ford and tire rack once you add in shipping and install, so can't complain. It'll be just over a grand installed.

I installed a set of Yokohama Advan Sports this spring. Best tire I have run so far. Installed cost a hair under $1000.

That's good to here, I ordered them then read some reviews after on tire rack and they weren't that good, I guess only the disappointed people took the time to write reviews!

I know a pile of my jeep buddies order from discount tire direct.. Even with shipping to canada they were saving significant amount. Nittos terra grapplers 2200 bucks installed up here. He drop across to Michigan and got them for 940 installed. That's nuts!

Well got the yokos installed today, they look pretty good! And if I add in install and shipping they came in right around tire rack prices.
Installed for 1024 and change.
