Update:
I went with the stock rims on winter tires and I've found some wheels on kijiji.
I wanted to gear from you guys if I went with 255/40 on 20's instead of 245 will that be a problem?

Also has anyone heard of RTX rims or MSR? I found a pair of boss but the guy is asking too much

Thanks again guys

How wide are the rims. That will determine how wide a tire you can put on them.

If they already have 245 on them then 255 should be ok. You have to adjust your aspect ratio to keep the overall diameter correct or else you car can end up looking goofy. And your speedo will be off

So the guy I'm buying from has 255/40R20 on no name tires on TX black rims for asking $800 as opposed to buying a set on 245/40R20
So it won't rub up on the inner wall?

No it won't rub, as long as the back spacing and offset are correct. But they will be taller. You should be putting 255/35/20 to compensate. Look up the diameter of both of those tires and compare the difference

.....I just realized you are going narrower .... So the tires you want to put on will be shorter not taller. Sorry bout that.

I will be honest, I'm a little drunk right now, however, 255/40R20 is a tire size not a rim size. So I don't understand how he has 255/40R20 on no name tires?

I think what he was trying to say is this: The guy has no name tires 255/40R20 on TX black rims. I wish I was there with you, so I could be a little drunk as well. But I'm at work and they don't let us drink on the job. But we can eat all the cereal we want.

Glad that worked out, found some extra cash and got the wife to stop yapping then? Did the dealer confess to trying to stick it to you with he second set of tires, or did you threaten to walk on the last new manual in Ontario? Told you having to buy the second set was BS. lol

thank you again for all your insight guys and Apocalypse the dealer never acknowledged they were trying to stick me with both sets but overall everything worked out

last question on this topic i promise:
turns out the rims are MSR brand size 255/55/20 on Nankang tires....
the other is RTX brand size 245/35/20 on no name tires....

will the 20 inches and fatter rubber hit the inner wall or am i still safe?
I dont wanna buy them only to realize i am screwed

I want the MSR as they are 10 spoke rims (single lines) as opposed to the RTX which are also 10 spoke (dual like BBS style rims)

please let me know what you guys think

I know guys with 275 rubber all the way around in 10 inch rims.

I think you are fine.... Would be nice to know your rim width offset and backspacing.

remember these are 20's

The offset and spacing I have no idea about as I am new to the rim aftermarket. Supposing im going with the same set up that my 17's are on will I be ok?
